Review of the Little Giant Revolution XE type 1A (300 lbs) model 22. It weights 38 lbs (four pounds lighter than the Classic the model 17 has a greater weight delta). Storage height 5’ 7”, min A frame 5’, max A frame 9’, min extension 11’, max extension 19’. I purchased the ladder last July and too the following pictures then. I have been using this ladder for the last 6 months can now provide more then the “gee wiz” it’s new, I love it review.
Let me just start with this… I HATE LADDERS THAT MOVE, BOUNCE AND ARE WOOD! Growing up on the farm in Iowa using ladders to go up 40 feet to shingle the barn that were wood and if the wind blew or sparrow landed on it, it would bounce like a bronco, might be why….but I will leave that to a therapist.
First off, got to say, yup these ladders are heavy and that is part of why I love them and hate them. I have light weight ladder that I use a lot when just a 2 or 3 step is all I need. If I need to lift or bring down heavy stuff or get to vaulted ceiling or just have a ladder that will do it all, The LG is the best thing I have found.
When my first LG was delivered by UPS I was home. Never before had the UPS truck backed into the drive and the UPS guy did not turn down my offer to help with the box. OH…my what have I gotten into, I thought to myself. The reality is the box was harder to handle than the ladder itself.
Packaging of the accessories was better than the packing of the ladder. One end of the box was almost fully open and there were two plastic things that looked like they would have been attached to the ladder somewhere that where at the bottom of the box. The up side is the ladder is built like the preverbal brick Sh** House and you could set off a Claymore next this ladder and it would not move or be hurt.
From the start and now with 6 months of use the LG was a rock and still is a rock! No wonder they call the locks “rock locks”. It shows no wear! It is just as tight when it locks as it was day one.
Any of the crew that has used it is blown away by how secure they are using it. Clients and neighbors that I have let use it are amazed at how stable it is. It is quick to adjust and use. Two home owners I know asked to put their old ladders in the dumpster as they had ordered their own LG.
The built in wheels make it easy to get to and from the site. The ability to get close to the wall by using the 90 degree setting is sooo… helpful I can’t count the number of times I have had to turn a ladder sideways to the wall to get close and then you have to twist your body to get pressure on what you are working. Or worse you don’t have the room to turn it sideways and you end up reaching way too far and not getting the job done as you like because you can’t reach it with the control you need to do the fine work.
I have to say the Brackets needed to make two "A" frame ladders, I'm not happy with as they don't store on the ladder...I have not forgotten them but some day I will forget to bring them or leave them somewhere and be ticked off. That could also hold true for any accessory.
The LG with the leg leveler and the stair setting are one of those….head slap moments…. Just like the first Festool product you bought… you say to yourself Why didn’t I do this sooner.
Hey it is just a ladder like the Kapex is just a chopsaw… Buy the best and you will not have to buy it again.
I can recommend the LG system to anyone that needs a ladder.
Cheers,
Steve
Okay not sure what went wrong... wanted to add the following below the images....
1. How it came. The UPS guy didn’t say no to help carrying it from the truck.
2. Ordered the 3 pk accessories
3. It is the Type 1A (300 lbs) Revolution XE. It weights 38 lbs (four pounds lighter than the Classic). Storage height 5’ 7”, min A frame 5’, max A frame 9’, min extension 11’, max extension 19’.
4. Fresh out of the box.
5. Wide steps 1.5” are very comfortable and give a very stable platform. As most good ladders the top of the step is flattened for comfort. When not fully extended, the double steps Make a 3.5” are very good.
6. The heart of the system, the rock lock. From users and retailers, the hinge and the lock are why LG beats all others as the hinges and locks are fit better and hold up much better than the knock off brands. Retailer said he had to carry the other brand for the “price point” and for the average homeowner the others were fine. But for the pro or the guy that does a lot around the house and want it last a lifetime…LG is the only way to go.
7. Controls are fast, easy and comfortable to use.
8. As you can see the pins are beefy.
9. In 2 seconds you are closer to the wall, without having to turn the ladder sideways.
10. These are the brackets to make the second “A” frame ladder. Note that the other ladder won’t fold. At site were the non extended A frame is all you need. You can put the two side by side and work wider. Also a second crew person can have a ladder to work off of. Remember if weight of the ladder is an issue and you know you won’t extend the ladder, you can take out the second legs.
11. Yea…even with the Rev XE being lighter, the wheels are a welcome feature to get it to the site and to move it around when on the site. Wheels won’t harm wood floors and are quite (if that matters to you).
12. Ready to roll.
13. I wouldn’t say it is a down side but the leg leveler won’t work on the side that has the wheels. What you do need to make sure is if you are working in a place that will need the Leg Leveler, you need to position your ladder properly.
14. None
15. The Leg Leveler ends are made to give more contact with the floor so you have to use the correct end of the foot. Just flip the leg over to work for the left or right side. One crew member found this a pain…but when it was pointed out that it didn’t dent the floor like his rounded end ladder…he agreed it was good.
16. I also ordered the Cargo Hold….. if they had only showed something in it to show size, not sure if would ordered it and most likely would have gone with the LG Project Tray. What I like about the Cargo Hold is I can load it on the ground and take it up the ladder. Also if I move the ladder I don’t have to take it off the ladder and things (well most things) won’t fall out. I think both have their place and should have bought both.
17. The Cargo Hold will fit between the top rungs of the “A” frame. This shows size.
18. It is deep enough to hold hand tools, maybe not the “Big” drill but power screw drivers, etc. it is good.
19. It can also be placed on just one rung but you would only want put smaller tools in it. You would also need to be cautious if you move the ladder with attached to just one rung. As you can see there is a divider that helps keep thing organized and the loops on the side keep screwdrivers and small stuff in place.
20. On the side is hammer loop and a pocket on the other. The hammer loop is not accessible when you have the Cargo Hold between the top rungs.
21. The Work Platform is great if you going to be standing for a long time, or you are going to be holding/lifting something heavy. When I had to take install a very heavy chandelier the platform make a much better platform to work on to get it positioned.
22. None
23. These pieces of metal are to make the platform backward compatible to some older ladders. I’m tempted to just cut them off, but if I do I know I will come across an old LG ladder for sale that need these things. The good thing is they don’t swing free so they stay out of the way and don’t get in your way.
24. The LG 22 at min A frame extension 5’.
25. The LG 22 at max A frame 9’.
26. The LG 22 at min extension 11’.
27. The LG 22 at max extension 19’.
