Riding Mower

Matt Meiser said:
My dealer said he has been experimenting with the weight kit Husqvarna sells for mine and he thinks it offers a better ride on rough ground too--less tendency for the front to bounce, but stopped short of recommending it for that reason alone.   They sell it to offset the collector unit they sell as an option.

That was part of the reason I had left the front weights on after I had removed the rear vac unit.  A much smoother ride over some rough ground.  After parking on top of that Honda, I figured i was lucky to have escaped without a parking ticket (also with my life,  [dead horse] might I add  :P) and never made that mistook again.  The extra weight on the front does have a definite effect on handling, not always good.

Wayne,
I have never had a zero turn so I will spend some time riding around without the blades spinning to get the feel of how it handles. I do have some hills to mow. However, if I loose control going down hill I'll end up in the pond instead of on a car. I don't plan on buying the carry deck, although I have seen many birds I would like to photograph.  [laughing]

The three closest dealers to me sell Hustler, Gravely, Snapper and Toro. The Toro dealer was highly recommended by many people I know, and they got me a discount on last years model, so I bought from them. A good friend of mine and my uncle both have the Toro mowers and are very happy with them. When I started researching the Toro mowers, I found they use the same Kawasaki engines and drives as some of what I would consider to be the more commercial mowers. Lifetime frame warranty and weighs about the same as the others. I hope I made a good choice. Time will tell.

Sounds like you will be taken care of. You will enjoy the job a little more now. Hope all goes well with the new and old house.

Congratulations.  Sounds like you made a good choice and got a good deal.

I just bought a gently used 3-year old Hustler Fastrak Super Duty 60 with only 90 hours on it for $4500.  Score!

I found it on Craigslist, jumped on the deal, and drove 430 miles roundtrip to get it.

This thing is a beast.

Nice Joe!

When I was looking at the Raptors the salesman was pointing me toward the Fastraks. Looked like a heavy duty mower. Have you pulled the trailer with yours?  Mine has a trailer hitch and the dealer said the zero turns work well with the trailers. Thinking of getting one just to do some light duty yard work.

Tom

It has a place for a hitch but I hadn't thought about attaching a yard trailer.  I think you'd have to be very careful about turning too tight.

I was looking at the Raptor Super Duty and wishing I could afford a standard Fastrak.  Getting a Fastrak Super Duty was beyond my wildest dreams.

Found a picture of my 455 after it followed me home. I have since sold the thatcher and bagger since they limited movement around my trees:

. Love the 90 degree turn for the poor drive belt on the attachment.  What is the life expectancy of THAT part... [eek]

No idea, but I don't care anymore - it's long gone!

;D

Riding mowers are great!  Versatile too.  I use mine to trim the hedges

All of the mowers you guys posted are WAAAAYYYY too slow. I can mow my yard - and every neighbor in a straight line - in just 5 minutes with my new John Deere:
