Hello FOG members
Today I call upon you for some advice on the 5 inch rotex sander.Within 18 days of use the pad brake and pad melted together.Took the sander to the retailer for parts .A festool rep was there and concluded that the brake was not installed  properly, the retailer installed a new brake and pad, great service as usual with festool.
Now with another 10 days of use ,the brake and pad seem to have problems,a lot of friction causing reduction in speed and a  high pitch sound.I have no basis to know what is right with this tool.
I have owned a es125,Rs2e and the deltex sander for the last 6 years.I do SANDALOT.
Having done the search on this topic did not help, most of the reviews do not  give any long term advice.
Thanks      Joe

It sounds as if you have a lemon. I would change it completely for a new model. Don't give up on the 125- it is a great sander.

Joe,

Welcome to the FOG.  I see that you a not a new member but it is your first post.

I am with Richard on this.  You can return any tool during the first 30 days without question.  So why not take advantage of this feature instead of having to endure an 18 day old returned tool?  This is one of the reasons we pay what we do.  I am sure that the cost of this policy is built into the cost of every Festool we buy.

30 day return is not a option now.Besides it takes 3 hours and 2 mountain passes to get to the retailer, thats one way.Looks like the tool will go back to Festool.
Now the question is ,for full time carpenters or woodworkers how often do these pad brakes wear out?
Thanks for the advice !  Joe

hi Joe.

I have been using festool sanders since 1999.
I have never had a pad brake problem.

I work as a carpenter and I abuse the hell out of all my tools.
Its not uncommon for me to run my ets150 sanders for 12 hours a day.
I am sure festool will be happy to rectify this issue that you are having.
Give them a call and arrange shipping for the sander.

Justin.
