Any thoughts on comparing the Rotex 150 and the RAS 115 for heavy to medium paint removal?
Thanks Mike

I have both, the RAS blows the RO150 out of the water with heavy paint removal. Like 4 or 5 times as fast. It does leave a rough surface which you have to clean up again with another, finer sander, like the RO150, but overall you're done much quicker.

The RO150 itself isn't bad either, it's just that the RAS, as a slowed down angle grinder, has a lot more speed. 650 vs 3800 RPM.

Dust collection with the RAS isn't that good though.

The RAS is a mean nasty paint-eater.  If you need fast and are ready to finesse with other methods, that’s the ticket.

Ras wins hands down for removal but you may need to follow up with another sander for smoothing.

Agree with all the above, but what's your specific application?  Keep in mind that you always want to be cautious using the RAS, due to the higher probability of dishing the surface.

I realize now that I haven't used my Rotex 150 once since I got the RAS115 a few years back. Ok, maybe one or two times for small tasks because the other sanders were elsewhere/out of reach.

I do need to sand down my living room floor so I am thinking the Rotex might be the ticket for that. The RAS is a bit aggressive but if they tag team I know the Rotex will leave me with a finish ready end result. After I am done I might sell off the Rotex.
