While at JLC Live I showed someone a feature that I had read here (I believe) regarding the use of the round RO () pads in the oscillating mode like the delta pads.  The individual had not heard of that feature.

My question to Festool is:  With the normal round pad installed on the RO90 it is possible to use the sander in the oscillating mode if that is desired.  Are there any safety / mechanical issues with doing that?

Peter

Perhaps you wanted for some reason to use the oscillating mode and had left the delta pad elsewhere.

If I look at the web pad offerings for the RO90 I see that in the round pads there are hard, soft, interface, etc, but only one delta pad.  If I was doing a raised door profile, the delta pad would not work as well as a softer round pad in the oscillating mode.  Of course the LS130 would be the best choice, but in a pinch...

I don't want to step on Peter's toes here but.... I believe the RO90 dosen't oscillate like other oscillating, "Multi-Master", type tools, it's a pure orbital action in the delta mode.  Frankly, this makes it a much better at sanding and also produces a better finish to boot.  I bring this up so members new to the RO90 know you won't get that funky ached shaped scratch pattern with the RO90 like you will with the oscillating tools.

Sorry Peter, I hope your toes aren't too badly bruised. [tongue]

What a perfect excuse to meander out to the shop on a friday night with a beer.

I do it all the time..... No issues that I have noticed and I actually prefer it over the delta pad.. Tired of the  tips of the  delta paper going bad....

Brice - No problems.  I am wearing my steel-toed sandals from Bornsandals  [big grin] [big grin].

I don't have an RO 90 (why is that?) so I was just passing on something and a question.  I have been known to be wrong many, many, many .... times.  You know us Fogger's - our curious minds have a desire to know.

Peter - toeless in VA  [scared]

PS.  The why not comment was directed at my wife who buys my Festools for me.  Guess she missed that entry on my list.  She does read my posts for ideas.  Hi HONEY!

There are two delta sanding pads for the RO 90, just like for the DX 93. Soft (488715) and hard (488716).

If Peter had a RO 90 he would be stronger, younger and more handsome.

I just realised that the RTS orbital sander format would be a great Pad to add to the RO 90.  Festool could make a RTS400 size pad to attach to the RO90  in the orbital mode [thumbs up] [thumbs up] [thumbs up] [thumbs up] [thumbs up] [thumbs up] [thumbs up] [thumbs up] Think about it the RO 90 could then do TRIPLE duty
the 90mm rotary/random orbit,  the 93 deltex and the RTS 400 all in one package. hmmmm if it happens i wonder if they would send me a freebee pad  [wink]

Interface pads to conform to shapes. This a stack of them. Single is very soft. Almost too soft for flat surface use. A little slow and wobbly on the flats when you go that soft.
