I had a chance today to try out my new RO150, boy it is a beast!

I ran it in the aggressive mode for a few minutes, then switched it over to random. The random mode felt exactly the same as agressive, nothing like an ETS. Is this just a case of the sander needing to be broken in, or something more?

Thanks

Our experience is that the RO sanders will never be quite as smooth as a true random orbit sander such as the ETS sanders.  But, there is a definite difference between the two modes.

They will however become smoother after a few hours of breaking in.

The feeling should be very different, in random orbital mode the pad should turn freely and you should be able to stop it turning with your hand. In RO mode this will rip off your skin.
However it is true that the RO150 and ETS150 in orbital mode don't feel exactly the same, i find that the ETS feels more aggressive. But that is likely just a feeling due to the fact that it's lighter and has a more comfortable hold.
Are you sure you have the mode switch on the RO properly engaged? It can be quite tricky.

I think it's more a case of the user needing to be broken in.  [wink]

A Rotex is quite different from most other sanders. If you're not used to it you definitely need to learn how it behaves.

I had the same in the beginning, I was always wondering if I put it in agressive or in smooth mode. I had a hard time telling the difference, until I got the hang of it.

Should it feel anything like the 90?

When I turn it off in either mode it comes to a stop in the same fashion, it rotates to a stop in a "bumpy rotation" fashion. Not sure of the technical term, looks like the diagram explaining the rotary orbital motion in the understanding the two modes PDF.

I believe I have the working of the switch correct, to be in orbital mode the switch moves over and kinda drops into the tool.

To test out the mode switch ....... put it in Rotex mode then turn the pad by hand it should have resistance . Switch to ROS mode it should move quite freely.
