Ro90 5in pad

I was on the job site today and the stair guy had a ro90 with a 5in pad.  I asked him about it and he said that he's been using it since he bought it with a modified 5in pad.  I watched him use it and it worked pretty good.  He took the original pad and took off the piece that connects to the sander and mounted it to a 5in pad.

Innovative, but I think a bad idea!

The RO90 is belt driven and designed with a 90mm pad in mind. To put a 125mm pad on it might increase strain and possibly increase wear on the belt. Secondly the motor is designed with a 90mm pad in mind and even again more strain, etc. Finally the pad in RO mode on the RO90 is quite easy to stop spinning so a larger pad can only add to this problem.

So all in all I'm not sure I'd do it to mine!

He said that he has had it for two years and uses it everyday for professional use.  The belt was one of my concerns as well.  The best part was I asked him about the systainer,  he said he doesn't like his tools in cases and put it in the recycling bin where he lives. Lol

I am kind of impressed.

That looks like it has had a harder life than average, and he is not afraid to modiify it. Secondly, he obviously he cares about the tool more than the box.

It has definitely taken a beating and still going.
