RO90 - What's the included, blue abrasive pad?

My RO90 came with a light blue-ish, round abrasive pad with a fairly fine "grit."  It was some kind of synthetic, and not Vlies.  It was not marked on the back, and the manual doesn't describe the included accessories.

It worked great for polishing some plastics and also aluminum.

Does anyone know what this is?  Platen, maybe?  - And what grit?

thanks.

Hi It could be granat that is light blue, suprised there are no markings on it though

Cable, when you say pad, do you mean sheet of abrasive paper or an actual pad?  Sounds like you mean abrasive sandpaper sheet, ya?  If so, does Shane's response answer your question?

I don't have an RO 90, but I just got a RO 125. Hopefully, what I got with the 125 will help you figure out the 90's papers.

On the frontmost bag, there was a sticker detailing what was included. The lower right corner listed the quantity and type of each paper included. For example:

1 x P 36 SA - 1 sheet of 36 grit Saphir
3 x P 60 CR - 3 sheets of 60 grit Cristal

The other codes for paper type are:

RU - Rubin
BR - Brilliant
PL - Platin

Granat is probably GR.

You can also recognize the type of paper by the color.

Saphir - Dark brown, about the color of brownies made from a mix.
Rubin - Medium Dark Reddish Brown
Cristal - Beige
Cristal - Very, very light brown, almost white
Granat - Very light blue
Platin - Dark gray on a foam pad  [Corrected: Originally typed "Plain"]

HTH.

BTW, the printing on all the Saphir I've gotten (included samples, plus what I purchased for a RAS) was all so light that I can hardly even tell it's there. Reading it is impossible.

Thanks, guys.

To be clear:  Granat is not a sandpaper, but a woven fiber of some type?

What color is Platan?  (I haven't been able to find pics of these two online.)

The "woven fiber" is Vlies. Granat is a regular type of sandpaper.

Platan is the dark gray on foam pad. I accidentally typed "Plain" in my previous post where I meant Platan. I'll fix that in a moment.

Thanks, EW.

I had the older version of that doc, which didn't include Platan.

I guess that's what I have, since Vlies is brown.  -  but in those pics Platan looks grey.  Mine is clearly grey-blue.  Maybe they changed production?

Can't someone from Festool confirm this, and also tell me what grit it is?  I need to order some.

I just opened a new RO 90 to see what's in them now...

The grey one is A 100 Vlies.

If you read the thread you'll see that Shane Holland already gave you an answer. He's from Festool. The blue papers are Granat. Platin is a very thick pad, just like vlies pads (3 or 4 mm). Btw, the name is Platin.

Since everybody is just guessing here, could you post a picture if you still have the disc?

Okay. Here's a picture of the two.

Platin is on the left and Vlies is on the right. Vlies reminds me more of a scrub pad for a kitchen sponge.

That's probably because it's the same stuff.  [smile] Ok, thanks for showing us the real stuff. Now we've got to await cableaddicts' picture.

No chance.  A100 Vlies is brown.  And what I have seems to be around 400 grit or finer.

EW, thanks for that pic.  Yeah, it's definitely Platin (but again, mine has a blue-ish tint for some reason.)

I still don't know what grit it is.    Ughh......

- And yes, Vlies is supposedly "the same thing" as Scotchbrite. It definitely feels / works like it.  Great stuff, I love it for cleaning tools & such.   (Platin is supposedly "the same as" Abralon, and a lot less expensive.)

None of the web sites I've checked show Platin available for the RO 90. Vlies is listed as available.

Also like the Saphir, the Platin I have did not have any visible printing on the back.

The blueish tint you keep describing reminds me of Granat. Here's a picture of the Platin (on the left) next to a piece of Granat (on the right).

Sorry for misidentifying your abrasive, never seen a blue colored Platin. It's more of a medium gray. Anyway, just like Granat, the Platin should have the name and grit on the back side. Platin is available in 400, 500, 1000, 2000, 4000 grits.

I'm not guessing. I have the package in my hand. I did make a mistake though. It's S 800 Vlies and the package also contains one A 100 Vlies, which is braun (brown).

It's stated right on the package label.
