Roadshow 2017

Living in Atlanta, one of my favorite stores here is Highland Woodworking. I've known about this Thursday's stop there of the Festool Roadshow, but I either forgot or didn't pay attention to some of the other ones here. My wife was out shopping today and saw the Roadshow truck at the Woodcraft up in Roswell so she decided to stop. She got one of their goodie bags for me which had some neat stuff in it:

On a side note, she said there was a couple there who was talking with her when another guy near them commented about being glad his wife didn't go to the roadshow stops because if she did, she'd see how expensive the tools were and wouldn't be happy. The wife of the couple she was talking with then went into the woodcraft and came out a bit later to have an animated discussion with her husband. It made me glad I'm not just a hobbyist and glad my wife is cool enough to not just stop at these things, but to put up with the awkward looks and never ending questions she gets waiting to get these goodie bags.

I still plan on going to the stop at Highland Thursday because I have some questions I want to throw at the Festool reps.

I envy you guys for getting a battery and charger as roadshow gifts, way more practical (also more effective in pushing the user toward buying cordless stuff, I suspect) than the LEV-400 that was handed out in this country...

Roadshows don't seem to make it to the NE too often. The closest one to me appears to have been in Downingtown, PA about a month ago. If I had known I might have driven the 75 miles.

Allentown, PA and Downingtown, PA appear to have been the only events in the NorthEast this year. Nothing in Baltimore, Wilmington, anywhere in the entire state of NJ or of NY or anywhere in New England for that matter. That leaves out a huge portion of the population, somewhere around 30 million I would guess.

This is under the assumption that the map on the FestoolUSA website of past events is accurate.

How are Roadshow locations selected?

The map you looked at only showed the most recent.  If you go down to the bottom of that page you looked at and click on the previous pages (total of 8 I believe) only those dates on that specific page will be shown on the map.  It would be great to have all the locations visited on one map, but...

In scrolling thru previous pages it appears that the Northest and your specific area was visited heavily in 2016.

In order for a dealer to have the roadshow come to their location there are conditions that need to be met and one of those is obviously parking lot size for the truck.  I know there are others and they are something that Is between the dealers and Festool.

I learned that Festool has a complete team devoted to this program that is multi-year.  Dedicated truck and driver.  Dedicated trainers and a full logistics team.  Not a cheap operation to run.

The routes are carefully chosen and many factors come into play, but most importantly is that the dealers have to want to be in on the program.

So, talk to your closest dealer and ask him if he has considered getting the truck to stop by.  There is only one truck and there are logistics involved, but the truck will never stop there if the dealer doesn't want it to.

Thanks Peter, that could explain why no visit to Wilmington, DE area as the Woodcraft store in nearby New Castle (my nearest Woodcraft about 38 miles from me) I believe is connected to the Downingtown store (possibly same owner). I've never been to their store in Downingtown but I know when I bought my Unisaw in 2010 from the New Castle store it was delivered to me on their truck from the Downingtown store.

Looking back in history it appears they were at the Wilmington store in Nov 2016.

Man all they had at mine was a beer cozy and hat. Neither of which I want/need/or will use. One shirt would have been better. And a free battery and charger would have been amazing!

SonOfMI your wife sounds like quite the lady.  My wife enjoys the systainers ("lunch boxes" as she refers to them) but I think if she knew how expensive the tools were she would be less excited for me when a new one arrives

I went for the first time my schedule allowed and was pleasantly surprised. Not surprised by the setup but, surprised by what I was given in my gift bag. I received an 18 volt battery and charger. I don’t have any cordless tools and now thinking about getting an 18 volt Tool! Lol, Festool is a smart company.....I don’t know how Festool knew I didn’t have a cordless tool.

The Austin one was nice. Got a BPC battery but no charger, granat sanding blocks, granat paper and the standard hat and koozie. And a catalog. The lady was really helpful, answered all my questions, and gave me some great pointers.

I got a blue and green tote bag at the roadshow I attended last spring. No one in the grocery store seems impressed by it though.

I'm a hobbyist and I'm very lucky to have a wife who encourages my participation in the Festool program.    I went today and it was a bit of downer as it was pouring outside so we were relegated inside to the Festool area of the store.  They couldn't demonstrate most of their stuff.  Now I have 2 18v 5.2 batteries and other than the flashlight, nothing to plug them into.  Hmmmm.  I think a C18 basic is in my future...
