Did anyone else notice in the lasted Rockler ad that they have 10% off Festool demo and clearance tools?

Tom

Yes, I was in my local Rockler today and they have ALL of their demo's in the classic systainers for 20% off. I was tempted but they did not have the MFK 700.

Pete

I bought an OF 1010 router only to get it home and find out it's missing the guide rods, collet wrench and 1/4" collet.  I'm going to see if they can find the parts, if not I'll have to decide if I should buy the missing parts or just return the router. [mad]  I noticed the wrench was missing and wasn't too worried about it, but I wasn't sure what else the router came with until I got home and looked at the catalog and Festool website.  I think I would spend the same amount of money if I just returned it and bought a new one.  That's what I get for making an impulse purchase.  I only went there looking for an empty systainer.

Tom

if you bought it on the pretence that all the bit were in there then all the bits should be in there. go back to the store and ask for the bits. if they cant find them they will have to give you new ones. if they wont give them to you for free then return it and get your money back.

Sounds like they were trying to sell you your first choice but failed at that. [poke]

Somebody is most liking wondering how to make " guide rods, collet wrench and 1/4" collet" attach to the the thier ST 55 and where they fit in the systainer. ???

I hope you can return it. Months back when they were selling the demo CTs I looked at them , they were being sold as is and all sales finial. I have not had good luck with the local Rocklers with new stuff... I so I walked away. I hope they will take it back. Or get you the the parts.

Cheers,
Steve

20 % off a demo with the old systainer style doesn't seem like enough.  I was tempted yesterday as well but bought the new version instead.

I talked to them today and was told they would get all the parts it's missing and ship them to me.

Hanshamm, I looked at a few different tools and none of them looked like they had been used much or at all. I like the new systainers much better, but I'll use the old style to save about $80.

Steve, I guess Rockler is like Woodcraft in that they don"t usually stock the empty systainers. I was looking around to see what else I needed when I noticed the three stacks of Festools with big 20% off signs on them - what was I to do?

They didn't say anything about no returns when I bought it, so if I don't get the parts I'll return it and buy a new one (or a RO 90).

Tom

80$ is a good amount if it's not usedtoo much.  My state tax is 9.5% so compared to online it really is only about 12.4% discount...so for me it would only be 48$

Pete,
The local Rockler still has the MFK 700 at 20% off and there is no sales tax here in the State of Oregon.

How things change.

When I first started buying Festool, about 18 months ago, I was told that Festool NEVER goes on sale. The only way to get a deal was to buy the package deals.

Well fast forward and now there have been several sales.  The referb sale, the current classic Systainer and Demo sales. Discontinued model sales for some of the cordless drills and the Trion etc.... Etc... Etc...

So much for NEVER  [unsure]

I had heard the same thing. What I'm finding is that The new stuff is not on sale but demo, closeout etc can. I'm also told that this last year has had more promotions than ever before.

You do have to keep your eyes and ears open.

Cheers,

Steve,

You nailed it, sort of.  When Festool was first establishing themselves here up to about 4-5 years ago,  they had more "sales/deals" than now. They always had an "introductory sale" - when a new tool was  introduced, the price was lower for the first couple of months or so. They has 3 levels of used tools - demo, used and refurbished - at different levels of discount. For years, they had a 3 tool - 10%  and 5 tool - 15% discount. They have almost always reduced the price on closeout tools, when newer replacement tools were introduced. As regards the Trion jigsaw, I have to guess that with the (now postponed) introduction of the Carvex, they  prices between the Trion and Carvex were not sufficient to make the Trions competitive.
Dealers have  been allowed to sell their demo tools.

Steve,

I'm embarrassed to say that I just got that.  [laughing]  You got that right!

Bob,

How come Rockler is the only place I've seen that is discounting their demo tools?  I go to Woodcraft and Woodwerks as well as some websites (including yours) and haven't seen any other company discounting the tools even though they have demo tools with old style systainers.  I used to like the introductory discounts on the new tools.  Made me want to have the newest tool even more than I do now. [wink]

Tom,

I'm not in the position to answer for any dealer other than myself, but my guess is that it's their best interest to sell their current demo tools and buy a whole new set of new tools - in the new systainers. Over the years, I've sold a bunch of my demo tools, but I don't have a need to sell any at this time - but may change my mind in a month or two or three.  As a  side note, remember, most of the demo tools sold by dealers are not coming with warranties.

Sometimes the word "sale" makes people:
  a. buy before fully considering what it is you are really getting - sometimes a sale  really isn't a sale if you add it all up.
  b. makes some feel they were "had" because the "sale" was not in existence when they made their purchase.

Which is not to say that there isn't money to be saved, or good value to be had in some sales, but we all need to look at "sales" more closely before deciding one way or the other.

Bob

I still wonder how things might change in the future with Amazon selling Festools.

Hi,

Keep in mind that the Festool items on Amazon are not being sold by Amazon propper. They are being sold through Amazon by  regular Festool dealers.  No real reason to go through Amazon for returns, warranty, or questions since sellers names are given on the item page.

SRS I don't think that's true.  Unless they don't disclose the source on their page?

ie.
http://www.amazon.com/Festool-DTS-400-EQ-Orbital/dp/B004T885LU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1310482557&sr=8-1

this is shipped and sold by Amazon.

Amazon has a great return policy.  If there are any problems with your tool (within 30days) they will ship a new item (1 day shipping) and you return the old one within 30days (paid by amazon).  Not to mention the amazon prime membership which gives you 2 day free shipping and 3.99 1 day shipping (and free movie streaming).  I've saved a lot of money in gas/tax using this service.

Hi,

So it is ! I stand corrected. All of the sample ones I looked at were being sold by dealers.

Seth

If anyone does not have a store near them but want one of the commemorative steins, they are reduced from $40 to $15.

A little known, but necessary tool in the Festool "system".  [big grin]

Paul was kind enough to bite the bullet, or (drink the beverage, whichever analogy works for you ) and did his usual great video review for it's value and above all to explain it's correct usage. (Festool as usual unfortunately does not provide great instruction, though this product might be slightly more intuitive than some...maybe.)

For instructions please see his review  [popcorn]
