Rotex Dilemma

I bought a bunch of Festool stuff after checking out the rotex 150 ct22 combo to be in compliance with state regs for sanding bottom paint at our marina. So I've got this complete set of beautiful gear and find myself in a quandary. I've seen what bottom paint can do to a tool, and, not wanting to drag leftover Interlux bottomkote into my woodworking projects, I either need to a: find a more efficient way to clean the tool or b: buy a dedicated sander for boat/messy work. The thought of all that red gunk in the ct22 hose etc. in unsettling too.  Am I being neurotic or is this a valid concern. The craftsman sanders I've used in the past had to literally be disassembled and cleaned. And they're still red all over. thanks for any input,  Mark

Perhaps you could get a second pad?  The new ROTEX sanders have a "tool-less" removable pad.

If you bought it to use on boats, do that first. Switch out the abrasive and give woodworking a try. Would be a true test of how good the extraction is. Sounds like either way you need it for work first. If you can't then use it cleanly for woodworking, time to buy another sander. Just my $.02(AUD). If you do try both with one sander, let everyone know how it goes. I'm definitely interested.

I switch back and forth between woodworking & bottom paint with my RO 150 & Bosch 1250DEVS (a sander with duel mode that is equal in stock removal to the RO 150 for less $$$) sanders.  Although I have 2 CT 22's, I use my old Fein Turbo for bottom paint.

A guiding principle for tool usage -- use the tool, don't let it use you.  Besides, take Festool up on their claim, Tough Tools for Tough jobs, or something like that.

When your done, grab the keys to the boss's Range Rover and pick up a load of hot patch to fix the potholes by the launching ramp.
