rotex gathering dust lately

Seemed like a good idea and sander at the time, but since getting the ets 150/5 and the ras-115 I don't use it anymore.

The ets is a much better finish sander than the rotex on finish mode and the ras is better at removing stock fast than the rotex on aggressive mode.

Yeah the rotex can do both finish and aggressive sanding, but so what if neither is done particularly well in comparison to the single purpose sanders mentioned above. I'd rather take the extra step of getting out the right sander to do a job well than to (supposedly?) save a little time and use the rotex for both tasks.

I just finished a project using my RO150 to strip my hardwood floors (10x10 room). I don't know if I would do this with the RAS as it has a smaller disc and might be too aggressive, digging and gouging into the floor. I think the RO150 also has better dust collection than the RAS.

Hi,

I tend to agree that the ETS 150/5 is a better finish sander even though the stroke is the same. I find that it requires less attentiveness and effort than the Rotex.

I don't have the 115 but for truly fast stocke removal it must be great.

I have done a fair number of jobs with RO150 in Rotex mode that the 115 would have been risky on. The RO150 is great for "safe" stock removal and stripping.

Depends what the job is.

Funny, I too just refinished the hardwood floors in my house, (3000 sf) and after one day returned the rented "edger" (more like "hole digger" and "baseboard gouger") and used the ras to great effect in its place. Saved a lot of time over the rotex and saved a lot of damage over the rented "edger"

I use my RAS for all my edging.  Gets the floor cut down fast and then hit it once with 50.

From there I finish it off with my Rotex125

I have the ets125 and only use it for screening and very fine work.

I spread my love around.... [big grin]

No you won't you'll take $1.00 and like it....  [tongue]

i agree with the OP, the rotex can do almost anything, but not as good as the specific tools.
can't beat my ETS 150/5 in medium to finish sanding, comfort and speed-wise.
and can't beat my belt sander in aggressive sanding neither in speed or comfort.
i actually rarely use it for sanding, i polish oiled surfaces with it, and occasionally when i really have to i will sand after the belt sander to get the marks away faster.

On my last project I used a new Mirka Ceros Abranet sander -- what a pleasure it is to use.  I'll probably reserve my RO150 for more heavy duty jobs now.

Ron what do you think of the Ceros sander? Would you recomend a 6inch or 5inch? I already have an ETS 125
thx

It's a wonderful sander.  I bought the 6" thinking I might use some of the same abrasives as the RO150 although the Abranet disks are super so I probably will just use the Festool abrasives with the RO150.  I only have the 6" model so I can't give an opinion on the 5".
