Rotex RO 125 Sander

I've just spent my first 8 hour sanding session with my new RO 125 and WOW!!  ;D  I'm really excited, what a great tool...  One minor item I did not expect to crop up so early is the rubber rotation brake...one 8 hour sanding session and I already can notice an increase in the spin down time on my sander...is this normal??  I'm going to order a new brake pad this week and replace it just to verify that I didn't get one with some sort of manufacturing issue...anyone have a similar experience??

Chris,
[welcome] to the FOG.  If I were in your position, I would use the tool for a couple of weeks before worrying or think about spending money on buying a new brake pad.  I would call Festool and explain what you are experiencing and see what their take on it is.  Maybe the tool is stiffer when new and then breaks in - which would make both conditions you noted normal.  Maybe the more rapid breaking is actually only there when new - i.e. what you are seeing now is normal and if it were not, that would be abnormal.

I know when I wake up in the morning I'm stiff and stop more quickly then I do at 2 in the afternoon [big grin].

The number for Festool is on the side of your sander.  Most people are glad that they called.

Pete...Thanks, I was just telling Shane, that as a new Festool owner I'm still not used to a manufacturer with a competent tech support group.  I'll be calling them tomorrow to get their feedback.  BTW thanks for the welcome...

Chris, welcome to the FOG. I'd echo Peter's advice on calling Festool before you order a new sanding brake. That said, Festool sanders have a brake-in period of 6-8 hours of use. During that time a number of this are happening, some of them are: the carbon brushes are seating, bearing seals and sanding brake (rubber rotation brake) are braking in. In other words, it's a normal part of the brake-in process. If you think your sander is not right, by all means call Festool, they will be happy to help.

I agree with Brice's comments.  I imagine what you are experiencing is probably just normal break-in.  I was really concerned with the heat buildup on my Rotex when I first started using it, but it hasn't been an issue since.  Your break-in was a little quicker than mine, so you are likely a little more aware of minor changes than I was.

If you see diminished functionality, then report it to Festool.
