Rotex RO90 - Strange sound in Rotex mode

Hello and good day.
My first post at FOG, and unfortunately it's in this section :)

I am not new to Festool (i have that multiplying Systainer issue, that many seem to have) but i am completely new to the Rotex, i liked the idea of having a delta sander and a orbit sander in the same machine. So i got my self a brand new Rotex RO90 yesterday, and after some test driving i found a strange clicking noise in Rotex mode. Now as this is my first time ever with a Rotex in my hand i am not sure if the sound should be there or not and it's hard to explain exactly how it sounds. But think of it like this, if you have the guard mounted on the rotex and have missed aligned the sand paper on the pad so it hits the guard every turn it makes, thats the sound but metallic. Not sure if that makes any sense?

This is only in Rotex mode, in random it's silky smooth, and sounds perfectly fine, Delta i havent tried yet. I did give Festool a call about this, and they thought i should keep on going and see if it disappears, but they where happy to replace the unit if i wanted to. Is it perhaps any one else here that had the same issue (not even sure if it's an issue) as this?

Peace.

The rotex does sound different in each mode and the ro mode is the smoother sounding of them (if that makes sense) but none of the modes are particularly irritating on my ro 90.

I suppose the best bet is to put it through the paces of use to see what happens.

I have an old RO150 that actually sounds and feels better than when new, might be I'm just used to the thing, don't know.

I don't have the ro90 but I do have the ro125. Mine certainly doesn't have any sound like that. Or at least that I've noticed in year and countless hours if use.

I'd swap it while you're still in the 30 days return window. Sanders work hard and any little problem is gonna creat consequences soon enough. Wait too long and it'll go in for repair and take longer than a swap out now would.

The Rotex does make a loud drive sound. No 'ticking' noises though.

Take it to the store and compare it to one of their models.

Rotex sanders make a sound you do need to get used to, but I'm not sure metallic clicking should be part of it.

I have also noticed the "clicking sound" a few times when I switch from orbital to rotex (or rotex to orbital),  sounds like somethings not fully engaging.

I noticed this on a Festool Rotex 125. It's a very loud/audible clicking that seems to indicate that it's not locked/locking into rotex mode. In fact. The only way I was able to remedy it was by ensuring that I hand turned the pad in both directions when I switched from orbital to rotary mode. It's like the selector switch is not fully engaging in rotex mode. I've seen lots of videos of people just switching over without a care from orbital to rotex and back, but if I don't hand spin the pad and make absolutely certain the gear is engaged it will click every time. This one is a recon tool. That might have something to do with it. An important side note to make is that I have never tried to switch modes while the machine is running.
