router bit too short

I have the porter cable Omni jig. I recently bought the festool 1400 router and ran into a problem. when I use it with the jig to make through dovetails I have to lower the router bit to far for comfort to make the cut I tried a collet ext but it didn't work either can anyone help me with this problem. this jig is the 24 inch one.  thanks
