I have had an RS2E for several years - love this sander. I went to use it a few weeks ago and the power started coming on and off. Checked the plug and brushes and things were fine. Finally it just stopped and with the weight of the sander. Turned it off and went to buy another one as I was in the middle of a project.
I took it a part to see if I could get a better idea of what was wrong. Took the plate off and lots of carbon built up in the bottom as seen in this pic. My guess is the the field or something is burned up. Anyone know how to remove the screw that holds the counter-weight? Trying to see if it is worth buying parts to repair or strip what I can as spares and recycle the rest. One of the screws broke that holds the plate on so I need to get some replacements for that. I would guess the bearings need replaced as well. If not overly expensive I will repair it and have two sanders or sell it.
