RTS 400 How To Question

Just picked up a RTS 400. Works great but I have a question. Should I only move the sander with the grain, or can I move it both cross grain and with the grain as I do with the 150/3?

It is a random orbit sander. Direction does not matter.

It seems (feels) more traditional to move it with the grain on the finish end.

I generally just make sure my last pass with the sander is with the grain.

Most boards are longer than wide and the RTS has a narrow base and can seem unstable or tippy if you are pushing the sander in the 3" direction all the time.  Unless there is a reason not too, and I can think of a few times that's necessary, I prefer to move the sander along it's long axis.  This probably translates into "with the grain" for most people on most boards, but it certainly isn't necessary.
