RTS-500 Cutter Adapter for Festool DF700

Thanks you to everyone for the help. I always try to go with the next level in a product if I feel I will need to expand my use in the near future so I'm not limited. I'd hate to get a 500 knowing I would need a 700 in the future, especially since the Seneca adaptor bridges the gap between the two. I don't plan on making jewelry boxes and would have more projects like tables, beds and decorative ceiling beams in my future.

My first project will probably be the bed for my grandson - I'm going to make a bed like a Military helicopter. His dad (my son) is a crew chief on a Marine Huey and I was a Marine cobra pilot, so hopefully it will look either like a Huey or Cobra when I am done.

Definitely the 700.  I can honestly say I have never regretted it. I don't think you will either.

I use the 700 with the adapter, and the 6mm bit almost exclusively.  Just prefer the shape and heft of the 700 over the 500.

Last project was a master closet shelf unit, of 3/4 veneer-core A grade red oak ply, and facing of 3/4 x 1.5 oak.  this unit took 160 6mm Dominos.

Tip for shelf edge to side wall joint:  I reference the shelf edge off the top edge of shelf with the fence,  that puts the Domino below center, giving more "meat" above the domino. As for the shelf unit side, I mark a line for the position of  top edge of the shelf. I then use a 25mm off-cut spacer gauge to position a clamped block below the shelf top edge line. I can then register the base of the 700 on the  block. the resulting side mortise aligns the top edge of the shelf.

Congratulations Tjacks66 of surviving your time in a Cobra.  I spent considerable time hanging out the side of a Huey (as a photog, not a door gunner!) The Army Warrants were always more agreeable to what I needed than the LTs. ( And crazier!)

Cheers, Jeff

My son is currently deployed in Djibouti, Africa. here is a shot of him with the Marine's newest Huey model, the UH-1Y. Wish I was there with him flying the Cobra.

Jeff - I noticed you live in Colorado, I'm in Parker.
