My son and I have been drying this maple log for two years. This weekend, we carved her up and went to work.

Grit steps were:

  • Chainsaw
    24 - 60g with RAS
80 and up with RO90 (+ interface pad after 180)

We are currently at 320 between coats. And several coats to go...

I can only hope...these skills will help him work his way through college, I am sure.

It is really amazing how much quicker an 8 year old can pick up tool techniques than an adult. No previous experiences or bad habits to break. It is just natural. He won't graduate this program though until he masters the RAS. That was a fun ride on the log during the preliminary sanding.

The problem now is, my son and wife are feeling like the piece is too nice to be outside. And I kinda don't want this thing in my house!
