Walnut dining table

Thanks Neil for the Sketchup capture...that helps make sense out of the inner workings.  [smile]

Love the idea of the KD bolts for future moving purposes, everything can be almost flat-packed for storage/travel.

Are these the Hafele pins you used?

[member=44099]Cheese[/member] Yes.  Those are the ones.  They work great and are really simple to install.

I think it turned out very nice 👍 . I remember when I was a youngster having to assemble and dissemble the dining room table for Thanksgiving. The leaves where in the basement and they slid in with dowels and the table was on a track and would expand. That was 50 years ago. I noticed that you made a table with leaves, did you consider making it a fixed dimension, which would ease the build process?

I made the table for my Son and his wife.  They have a smaller dining room but on occasion will have larger groups for dinner.  So they wanted the option of expansion.  And the in-table storage made that a really simple decision - no worry about leaf damage or having to store them in a closet, basement or attic.

Figuring out the build was a challenge - but that makes woodworking more interesting.  I spent many hours in Sketchup playing around with ideas and dimensions.

So the shelf below stores the leaves? That makes sense. Every time I had to fetch the leaves in the basement closet, for a family gathering, I had to worry about getting bitten by a Black Widow 🕷 I have a lot of fine memories from that basement. lol
