This was built using mainly festools (other then my jet 6 " jointer and kreg jig).

I used the undulating head for my 850 planer to give it the rustic look. Its made out of 4/4 birch. Its finished with a umber penetrating stain mixed with acetone and clear acrylic. I went over it with a coat of orange shellac and a coat of wax. I attached a photo of the top , gives a good idea on the  finish and distressed wood. The front photo is a little lite. I added a drawer pull for the drawer at the top.\

This shows that a simple design can go a long way.  Nice job. I never heard of the penetrating stain, acetone and clear acrylic mix.  What is the advantage?

Brice , I picked that mixture up from a guy at the shop I buy my finishes from.

they sell a variety of finishes mainly GF (WB) and mohawk(solvent based) finishes

The advantages are you can control the stain, how dark you want it since you can spray it in "layers" or multiple light coats to get the color you want. Plus you can tone with this.

Its great for spray finishing which is what I originally was doing with this mixture.

I brushed it on this project  because I felt brushing it on would be faster ad easier bc its such a small project.

The acetone helps the stain and clear it to flash off/ dry very very fast.

Not to mention It goes a long way say mix up a qt of it 30% stain, 30% acetone, 30% clear or what ever mixture you decide works for you to get what you want.

Heres a photo of the same stain, clear and acetone sprayed. It gives a different look as this is maple not Birch and I added more stain than I did with the wine rack. So you can adj the color by adding more stain to the mixture

Also a big plus (well for me) is if ya screw the finish up the RO 150 in rotex mode will strip that finish off in no time and you can just respray. The head board in the photo was sanded down and resprayed twice before the photo was taken ( new spray outfit  hehehehe) any way thos are the advantages I find with this sort of finish.
