See something weird about this sander?

Purchased it for a back as a refurb right through Festool quite awhile ago and only opened it today.

It powers up and looks new, but there is some saw dust on the speed knob.

No serial number sticker on the bottom either.

Saw dust I would expect and not worry about if it is a recon tool
What did festool say about your inquiry ref no serial number?

That serial number sticker really isn't a big deal to me, do you see the issue with this sander? It's just a bit weird and whoever refurbished it wasn't paying attention.

Who will be the first to spot the error and post?

Yeah, they must of put a new sticker on the side is all I can think, I probably have the only combo 150/3/5 out there.  [big grin]
I wanted a 3 to go with some of my 5's and I do think it's a 3 so it works.

Come to think of it being able to flip a switch and go from a 5 to a 3 would be a cool feature!

Na it's not a situation thats needs any remedy, the sander works fine and I am 99% sure its a 3. I just thought it was funny more than anything else.

Remove the pad. There is a metal plate above the pad that will have either 150/3 or 150/5 stamped in it.

I think it is the new frankensander 150!
Was put together with all the left over bits and pieces.  [wink]
Could be a modified 125?
Hmm. Would worry if it gets angry.  [mad]

If it were me, I would still reach out to Festool. If this tool fails within the one year warranty period, how would you get warranty service without a serial number? You can’t necessarily go by the serial number on the systainer if there is one. I purchased a C.T. 26 from the recon site. The box that it came in was a C.T. 26 box with a paper serial number, model number attached on the outside of the box. It was obviously from the original C.T. that came in the box, not mine. Completely different numbers and manufacture date on my vac. Doesn’t hurt to check it out. Just my 2 cents worth, although with some of my advice I’ve been known to get change back [eek] [eek]

Well getting a used tool with saw dust on the speed knob?

OMG,  the horror you should come to the FOG complaining about that,  the poor quality, how you expect more from festool, how they are just taking peoples money for a inferior product....

Sorry I couldnt resist  [big grin]

Wait a second I didn't complain at all? [wink]

What the heck, I posted something weird.,

This was supposed to be funny, jeez.

You are right I probably should call raising Cain because that little bit of dust was a nightmare to wipe off.  [big grin] I want a brand new sander.

Oh and it is a 3 I took off the pad, so all is well.

What is the shape of the pad spindle? Since one sticker is missing & the other was changed, it is possible you got a 125/3. Those sell for about $100 less than a 150/3.
In the picture below, the sander on the left is a 125/3 & a 150/3 on the right.

No, its 100% not a 125. I have half a dozen of these sanders, this is an EC  Sander, but thanks. Mine is the sander on the left.
I think you mixed up your sentence or flipped your picture orientation, becasue the sander on the left is the 150/3.

I dont like these EC sanders too much anymore. I recently purchased a Bosch ROS65VC and I just cant go back to the vibration ever again.

To be fair the Bosch ROS65VC is more comparable to the ETS 150 sanders. What I like most is that the  Bosch produces far less swirl and  best of all there is so little vibration I don't need gloves for hours of sanding like I have to after long runs with the Festool sanders. I might switch over to these Bosch ROS65VC  instead of the 150 ETS and 150 EC sanders throughout my shop in the next couple years.

This Bosch does have a weird floating feel(even with the hard pad) at first, but once I was used it I just ended up loving the sander. And even though it only has 6 oval holes in the pad it is every bit as good as the Festool at dust collection. The Bosch is just far better at leaving little to zero swirl marks the swirl mark compared to not only my Festool sanders, but all my others.  I actually had to go over a couple inlays with this Bosch sander after the Festool ETS 150/3 just would not remove some swirl marks in some Bubinga.

If this tech isn't patented Festool should look into it. Bosch separates the sander in the middle. Like I said at first it gives a weird floating feel, but it works and I quickly became accustomed  to it. I have looked a this sander for a couple years and finally pulled the trigger and glad I did.

Oh yea a sticker missing, OMG whats up with festool 5 years ago they would of never forgot a sticker, they have really gone down hill [eek]

It most likely fell off. When they refurbish the tools they leave the original serial sticker on(at least the half dozen refurbs I have the oringals). It appears they replace the other stickers.

Someone must have grabbed the 150/5 sticker instead of the 150/3 sticker to match the handle and slapped it on the side is my guess.

The refurb was done pretty well, it appears new and they gave me the newest pad. I have purchased brand new in the box tools that had a bit of sawdust in the box. So the small amount of dust in the switch didn't bother me, probably from testing(a good thing).

I got it correct. The sander on the left is a 125/3. I have 2 - 125/3s. Both have the metal plate with 150/3 stamped in them. A 5" or 6" pad will fit on those sanders. The one on the right is a new 150/3. The metal plate only has a 3 on it. Only 6" pads will fit on the 150/3.
