The Rotex provides dual sanding capability. What are the equivalent sanders in the Festool lineup?

Also what is the difference (other than size and shape) between the ETS 125, RTS 400, and the ETS 150/5?

Thanks.

Hi Jim,

      Welcome to the forum!  [smile]

There is no equivalent to the Rotex sanders when they are the aggressive mode.  As the others have said the fine mode is technically equivalent to a random orbit sander.

      RO150 has a 5mm fine sanding stroke = the ETS150/5

      RO125 has 3.6mm "  "    "

      RO90  3mm

I see that some people are using the RAS rotary sanders with a 24 grit disc as an alternative to an angle grinder for heavy stock removal when shaping wood. Does anyone know what the difference is between a RAS sander and a Rotex in rotary mode, and why the Rotex is preferred for this application?

The Rotex is not truly rotary, it still has an orbital motion thrown in with it. The RAS is purely rotary. And then there is the speed difference, the Rotex has 660 rpm, the RAS 3800.
