So do Festool make there own sanders or do they make sanders for other companies?
What do you guys think?
It seems odd that many other brands have exactly the same housing for there 6" sanders. And they are all made in Germany.

Besides Festool, other companies that have the same housing are Ridgid, Bosch and Metabo.

  Paul,

The Festool ros, orbital and linear sander are made by Festool. I am not sure if Festool manufactures sanders for rebadging with other companies. The router market is a bit different - Mafell manfactured the of 2000 to Festool's specs and Festool made the 1010 routero Mafell's specs. Now, the repacement router for the OF 2000 is all Festool.

Just have to wait a year or so for that one.

Hi,

I don't know. I just compared some pics. They all have the same basic shape , but they are all a little different.

I expect many sanders and other tools share the same basic shape.... after all, they have to fit the same basic shape humans.

With the rare exception (the one Bob mentioned is the only one I have heard of) Festool do not seem to be into brand engineering like many other companies. Except with their own industrial power tool company Protool.

According to my information, Bob is right. The Festool sanders are made by Festool and, personally, I don't have the impression that Metabo, Ridgid an Bosch have the same hosuing as Festool.
However, the Metabo SX E 450 Duo is/was also available from other brands.
In my neck of the woods, Europe that is, the Metabo SX E 450 Duo is also offered by Mafell and Dewalt. Just a few weeks ago, Metabo introduced a new ROS - the SXE 425/450 Turbotec. Currently, I have no information whether the SX E 450 Duo will be discontinued as a result of the most lately released ROS.
As far as I know, Ridgid got their 6" ROS from Metabo some while back. The current Ridgid 6" ROS doesn't seem to be produced by Metabo.

Hope this helps,

Christian
