I went by my local toy store to pick up a super-soft sanding pad for my newer RO150 and was a little surprised...did they change the pad design recently? On the soft pad that came with my Rotex, the hook and loop extends to within around 1-2 mm of the edge of the pad. Also, the sandpaper seems to be --slightly-- larger in diameter than the sanding pad. By comparison, the new super-soft pad I got has H&L that goes all the way to the edge. Also, it seems like it is closer to the exact diameter of the sandpaper. Did they change this? When?

I bought my RO150 and two supersoft pads for it in April or May of this year. My soft and supersoft pads are exactly as you described - different H&L diameters and very slightly smaller overall diameter of the supersoft pad. I have often wondered about the difference as well. Maybe now we will find out...

The pads are all different diameters, with the polishing pad being the smallest. I assume that is so that it won't hit what you are polishing.

The RO150 soft, supersoft, and hard pads are all 6" (the soft pad IS slightly larger than the other two, but the difference in size is almost indistinguishable). The H&L on the hard pad goes all the way to the edge, as it does on the supersoft pad.
By contrast, the polishing pad (more like a plate) is 5" - while the felts and sheepskin used with it are 6". As Tom stated, this protects the work from being damaged by coming into contact with the polishing pad.
I haven't used any of the polishing accessories yet, but am looking forward to it once I get around to putting the new finish on my desk (of course, I'll have to finish getting the old stuff off first...) [smile]
