I'm about to purchase a Rotex 150 and wondered if anyone could help me with a source for buying smaller quantities of sandpaper in the UK or possibly an assortment. My first job will be to strip back some beech worktops so I can re-oil them. Can anyone advise me on the best paper for that and a good all round paper to get started with. Most of my work is kitchen fitting with all the related tasks that go with that and some woodworking . Also can I buy suitable paper for my Fein Multimaster to strip oil from worktops so I can use that for corner work for now. I eventually want to get that Rotex 90 for that but that will have to wait.

I've spent the afternoon reading all sorts of Festool guides to sandpapers and posts on here and I think I'm more confused than when I started.

Its possible to buy packs of ten pieces And I have found granat to be very good

Thanks for the Granat recommendation. I was slightly underwhelmed by everybody else's response!

I also spoke to Festool UK yesterday about sandpaper and they were worse than useless. I hadn't expected much and to be honest I was just pleased they had answered the phone for once. So imagine how impressed I was to find a PM from Shane in my inbox  giving me the name and contact details of the Festool guy in the UK who can actually answer my questions. I'm sure Shane is kept more than busy enough keeping all you guys over on his side of the pond happy so I'm massively impressed that he took time out to help out a guy in the UK. I hadn't asked him, he just decided to do it. We have so much to learn in the UK from you guys  about customer service and if I was in a position to award medals Shane would definitely be getting one.

It can be a bit frustrating when a post gets under the radar.. As regard shane he spends more than enough time keeping just me happy..  [big grin]

get yourself a few packs of granat I'm sure you will be happy with it.

I was just as confused when trying to work out which type of paper I should use. I've only tried Brilliant II and I am really pleased with the results.

I also have the Rotex 150, when loaded with 80 grit paper acts more like a grinder the way it removes the wood, well not quite but it certainly a quick way of removing stock. I also have the ETS 150/3 which I switch too once I've flatten the work with the Rotex, I'm not saying the Rotex can't do the job, its just I think the 3mm orbit gives a better finish.

Slinger1858.co.uk seam to sell most of their sandpapers in 10's if that's any help

If you PM me your address I'll send you a couple of discs of each grade of Brilliant II I have, to see if you like it.

My underwhelmed comment was a bit harsh. My excuse (a poor one)  is that I'm overworked and underpaid. Who said self employment is about freedom, I've got more chance of flying to the moon than taking a few days out!

Thank you very much for your very kind offer. I have actually ordered a load of 10 packs from Slingers which arrive tomorrow. I just took a shot in the dark and will have about 8 x 10 packs inc. Granat, Brilliant2, Rubin and Saphir. The sander arrived today with an assortment in the box. Times must be hard for Festool UK as I'm using the word assortment very loosely. It amounted to one sheet of Granat 80 grit! I have had limited time to play with the machine and only one sheet of paper but my first impressions are that it is an awesome bit of kit. I can't wait to put it through it's paces with a selection of papers tomorrow.

The worst thing is I told myself I could get through 2013 without a major Festool purchase apart from consumables. I neally did it and only had to hold out for another few weeks! Back on the slippery slope again. When are they going to start FAA (Festool Addicts Anonymous) and what form would the therapy take?
