Saw took chunks out of black plastic guide on 45degree mitre cut

I assume this was the rubber dust shroud which can get pushed in the way depending on the cut/angle?

Or is this the slot cover on the base, in which case unless the head has some looseness causing it to move or twist in use, it shouldn't be able to chip it?

Odd for that to happen on a miter cut, will happen on the first bevel rip.

There is usually some ambiguity in those terms. Confusion set in pretty quickly.

? The anti-splinter strip on the guide rail? Did the saw ride over some dirt, lifting it?
 
OP has not returned. We really don't know which saw or what black part.
