I like using steel rules for measuring instead of tapes (as I feel that I get super accurate results with them).  Anyone know of any longer rules (preferably hook rules) (3 ft or longer) that are accurate accurate?

Thanks,

Chuck

Here's a link to GEI International.  This is where I buy all my steel rules.  They have a good selection of different sizes & types. They even sell a good range of metric and metric/imperial rules.  Their quality is the best I've seen.http://www.geionline.com/catalogs/store.asp?pid=167757&catid=29686

P.S.  I've got a 12" and a 32" Pinnacle T square.  Wood Craft sells these.  They are the same products as the Woodpeckers only black instead of red.  I love them and use them a lot.  The only problem I have is that neither Pinnacle or Woodpecker offer them in metric.  Bummer!

Hi Chuck,

I think the finest available rules are made in the USA by Starrett.  They offer rules in every size in both fractional & metric. http://catalog.starrett.com/catalog/catalog/PLH2.asp?NodeNum=21812  That's the good news... The bad news is the cost on these makes the cost of Festool equipment look like a Harbor Freight bargain.

However Sommerfeld offers a great value in aluminum painted on combination squares.  I have compared my 48" Sommerfeld square to my 48" Starrett rule & found it was a perfect match.  I then compared the combination head & blade to my Starrett combination squares and found that it was perfectly square with no light between the blade & heads.  Square is square and the Sommerfeld's are a fraction of the price plus offer fractional on one side of the blade & metric on the other.http://www.sommerfeldtools.com/prodinfo.asp?number=87103  And the 48" sells for $24.90  He also sells a 36" & a 24"  I not going to say that these aluminum square will hold up over the long haul like a Starrett but they are a great bang for the buck.

McMaster.com has many pages of steel rules. I didn't look at all the pages but the hook rules I saw go to 2 feet.
