Anyone know what this part on the blade guard is for or how it is used? I've removed it since Day 1.

My SawStop installer, many years ago, said it wasn’t necessary so I’ve never used it. Probably could find it on the SawStop web site.

It is meant to go up and down with the guard and be even with the top of the blade so that you don't have the blade lower than your material.  I have it on my saw; but it very often does get flipped out of the way and left there.

Thanks for explaining its use. So instead of lifting up the blade guard and place the workpiece next to the blade to set or check the blade height, I could simply use the front of that to check.

Whether on YouTube or in the commercial shop that I once hung around, I didn't seem to see it installed.

I'll put it back to see if I find it useful as designed, or if it'll get in the way in certain cuts.

We had them on both of the saws, when they were new. They stayed in place for a while, but after a few too many annoyances and they got removed. It's really just there as a height gauge for the blade, so you have it at the right height.
