SawStop Ship Dates

Greetings,

I ordered a new SawStop 36” contractor saw last week. I checked many sites and it seems that estimated ship dates range from October 15 to November 21 (Rockler).

Does anyone know why the ship dates are so far out and if there is a chance that the dates may be moved up?

I really look forward to getting this saw. I have an old Delta Shop Master T300.

Hi!

Probably Covid-19 related. That pesky virus disrupted supply chains everywhere, and not to mention, closed down manufacturing sites.

It will be a while before "over" supply is back as we know it.

I just checked a vendor's site, everything that interested me was pretty much out of stock, except for some small items that are not labour intensive and are probably shipped by the hundreds in one box, so stock doesn't deplete as fast. (lot of product, minimal storage ...) ...

Such a saw is a whole different story.

Hope you're lucky and will get the saw at the earliest date!

If you're really curious, you could call Sawstop and I'm sure they will tell you the story.  I suspect six-point is on point.  All kinds of unpredictable things have happened to supply chains since spring.  It could be the factories are operating in shifts with less employee density which limits what can be produced.  It could be shipping delays.  It could be part delays that are needed for this saw. 

There is also the consumption side of the equation.  What's interesting is the cabinet saws are in stock, but the contractor saw comes in at a lower price point for someone looking for the flesh sensing tech, wanting something substantial and quality, but not wanting to push the price north of $2K.  There are also a lot of people spending more time at home and finding ways to pass the time, so there may have been a surge in demand for this saw.  Previously they may have sold 2 cabinet saws for every contractor saw, now the ratio may have flipped.  (I don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me if something like that has happened)

What you could do is call some local power tool stores to see what they have in stock.  Not the ones with big online stores that would have been picked clean by the web shoppers.  The stores that require you to walk in.  These are the guys that might have stock lying around.  Even calling a local Rockler or Woodcraft might be an option.  I don't think you can order online from a local store, so that local inventory is probably only accessible to walk ins?

Thanks for the replies. I called Beaver Tools (I ordered here) and the best estimate they can provide is October 15. Others siad November 1, Sawstop won't say and Rockler shows 11/21/20 on their website.

I guess it is just a waiting game.

SawStop regulates prices so it won't cost you more to buy locally.  At least that is what I found when I bought my PCS.  The local dealer had it in stock.  But I just bought a Jet bandsaw on August 31st, the last day of their sale, and got a call earlier this week saying they have it at Woodcraft.  They had estimated end of September.  So it came in a bit early.  We had hurricane aftermath going by for the last couple days and I need an engine lift to handle it so I won't pick it up until tomorrow at the earliest.  I am still glad it came in early.

I hope you have a similar experience with our SawStop contractors saw.  My recommendation is to go to the local dealer and buy it if you are sure that is what you want.  They can then start trying to get it for you.

He didn't give a figure, but said the cabinet saws were the key revenue stream for the company. That was over 5 years ago, but I have no reason to believe the situation is different today.

I checked one of the local SawStop dealers, and saw some PCS available, but not the contractor saw. Didn't check the ICS model.

That makes sense.  When I got my PCS from a local dealer (Tooland, San Carlos, CA) they had it in stock and delivered it to my house for free.

I called saw stop yesterday and they said they are shipping out on October 15th. Woodcraft said around the 22nd. The federal stimulus checks apparently got cashed at Home Depot, Lowe’s, rockier and woodcraft. During lockdown people are taking on DIY projects.  If you’re WFH you realize just how bad walls, toilets, showers, fences, etc are. So those 2 car garages are getting turned into ad hoc woodshops. Apparently, the mobility of the JSS Pro made it onto the buy-now cart. Same with the contractor for the price point. I also heard that ships are being quarantined for 2 weeks off the coast before coming into harbor because of Covid? I think the skin detection blade breaks appeals to the diy crowd, that’s unfamiliar with table saws, want the safety features, like their fingers . So on and so fourth....

On this side of the border, at least in my city, renovation contractors and workers have been crazily busy after the initial couple of months of lock-downs and shock. Lumber prices have now gone up since many people started doing D.I.Y. work themselves at home (whether they are the "work from home" folks or unemployed for the time being). At one time, some places ran out of 2x4s etc. I wouldn't be surprised if demand for good machines and tools has surged, too. The supply chain wasn't prepared for this. If you need something for the near future, better get it now...it could be worse when the holiday season is around.

If not for the CERB (more or less the Canadian equivalent of the Federal stimulus), I couldn't have imagined people lining up to get into hardware stores like Home Depot, Canadian Tire, etc. (the lines disappeared after they relaxed the social distancing measures) in a stressed economy that we're in. During those few early months, to avoid waiting in line, I basically stopped visiting them other than using their curbside pick-up/delivery service.

A bit late to the convo, but here's my observations regarding SawStop saws.

[*]Owned by Tooltechnic, as is Festool. Thus prices are uniform regardless of place of purchase.
[*]IME, the PCS both 120V 1.75 HP and 230V 3 HP far outsell the contractor and jobsite saws combined.(Note: My experience is in the U.S. market, specifically Woodcraft Chattanooga)
[*]The instructions for assembly for the PCS are the best I've ever seen in the industry. Not so much for the industrial 5HP and 7.5HP.
[*]The way they are marketed is you build a package that includes the saw body, rails, fence and extension table. The T-glide fence is really nice and is an upgrade from the 30" fence. I think that is one of the supply constrained parts right now,
[*]The build quality on these saws is really good. Between the build quality and the safety feature, Sawstop outsells all the competition.
[*]Yes, the global economic shutdown has effected every business and it may even get worse.

So, if you are looking to buy a Sawstop, have patience...it really is a great product.
