I had a bunch of different kinds of wood strips left over from cutting board projects. When we remodeled our house the kitchen sink we chose was exceptionally slow draining which made it hard to drain pasta since the water from the pot would backup into the sink and could contaminate the pasta. We would end up holding the colander up high but that is dangerous when pouring boiling hot water through it while trying to hold it. I came up with this idea:

I rabbeted the bottom to make it fit slightly down into the sink so it can't slide and accidentally fall into the sink. I had to round the edges to file the profile of the counter top. First time I actually had to use a chisel in a long time.

Only took me a few hours to put together and the circle cutter on the Carvex came in handy... Until I found out the hole was cut about an 1" too small! :
I made a circle template and traced around it and then used the Carvex to cut the bigger hole by hand. Not nearly as smooth but it works.
