Screw Storage

The stanley's are nice.  I like the Dewalts as well as I can get them locally.  But they don't fit "the system"

I use the Stack On DOGC 17 & 10s.  I have 10 of them I keep in a rack I made with 8020 HT series tube with a single flange for the container support.

I cut the package top and place in the individual box

I use a Racktainer like Seth's.  In fact, I got the idea from Suheth.  Now, if only I could get around to labeling the boxes...

Aaaaah, yes, the labeling. That is always the hard part to get  on with.  [smile] Not a big deal until you get a lot of sizes that are close in length.

What you need are some kind of tools of some kind to make some sort of rack of some sort to integrate them into the system.

They fit my system quite nicely. I've only been using them for 13 years though so I'm not sure they will hold up long term.

I have a couple of the Stanley organizers. I wish they made them with a fold down handle though. The wasted space from the handle that could be used for more storage annoys me.

I have a DIY racktainer that holds several of the Stack-On part organizers.

Thanks...  ;D  now I have another pet peeve of the darn things.  I can say they are strong.  The handle has always baffled me.

Lee Valley is also selling the Tanos Sys-Az Systainer Storage Drawer;

I like the looks of that one and the T-Loc Systainer that Frank points out (also at Lee Valleyt)

I need to do something other than the 12 drawer Sys-2 that I got from McFeely's with their screw assortment.  I don't see that one on there web site any longer and their assortment came with way too many long screws that I don't need.

I did some install work last year for a general contractor that used a home-built tool closet that was very similar to that Mobile-Marie cart.  I was impressed that nearly everything hand tool or consumable that their in-house carpenters needed was in a drawer inside of this big plywood armoire. They specialize in commercial and institutional buildings where elevators are available, and they are on-site for weeks at a time, so a system like that makes sense for them.  It would not work so great for me, as I climb stairs and usually leave the same day I arrive.  The Sys-1 with the little plastic boxes works awesome, I can already see that I need another for pneumatic fasteners.  And another set up with touch-up supplies.  And probably another for good measure.

+1 for the Stanley FatMax cases. I have 10 of the shallow cases, will be adding some more shallow and a few deep cases soon.

I like that they have clear lids so I can see the contents without opening, they clip together so I can carry several at a time - but be careful with that, I broke one handle carrying 5 cases full of plumbing fittings down 4 floors of stairs - too much weight! Contrary to Elfick's comments, I like that the handle is rigid, if I have to put them down to open a door, I don't need to fumble around to pick the folded handle back up.

I really don't want Festool cases... at some point I will change all my Festool Systainers with plain gray or black Systainers from Tanos. I don't want prying eyes to see that I have a van full of Festool !

I almost put a "Festool Fan" sticker on my SUV and on my Trailer. Thankfully, I realized that it could be an invitation to thieves. Maybe I should put a "Acme Outhouse Supplies and Waste Disposal" sticker on my trailer..... [big grin]

Cheers,

Frank

This sticker works well frank! It's also true as I am beekeeper

These are Stack-On DCOG-10.  I got them on amazon, but they don't carry them anymore.  I just checked and it looks like you can order them from HD online.  I was quite excited that they came in GREEN.

i've used the stanley for years even way before i heard of festool.  the nice thing is that they can hold a lot and they're quite stout.  you can take out part of the individual inserts to fit in a tool like you see with the rivet one--crappy picture but you get the idea.  the remaining inserts will stay in place due to the extrusions imbedded in the lid.  the clear lids are useful but the downside is that if you move them around a lot, the contents will scratch and cloud up the inside of the lid making it opaque.  even if you have polishing equipment and can restore the lid to clear again, it's a lot of work and there are too many crannies preventing you from getting it perfect.  i've taken to leaving the tops on the screw boxes and taping one sample screw unto the yellow plastic box a bit down from the lid.

i got a few of the max ones to try out as well for larger parts--there are half as many more on another wall.  i will say that the only reason i went this way is because i had all this stuff left over from a previous business:  the containers, the reinforced slat panels, the slat hooks.  it's a workable system, but if i was starting from scratch again i would be looking at other options out there as well.

there is a distinct advantage to my aging mind to have a bunch of stuff easily visible at a glance.  i can't count the number of times i ran to the store for some fasteners, only to realize later that i had the exact thing i needed tucked away in a drawer somewhere.

I started using the Plano cases years ago based on an article in Pop WWing.  The newer cases with the removable compartments are interesting, but these are more configurable and hold a lot more per case.  No handles though, so better for shops than sites.  Don't have any specific pics, but here's some shop pics that show my cabinet.

I like that you can see everything.  That's one of the real nice things with those cases.  I don't have to open them up to see what's inside.
