Securing jessem clear cut stock guides with magswitch??

Hi,

I would like to use the jessem stock guides on a sawstop ICS. The TS guides are not an option because it’s a saw in a shared space so I can drill into the fence and the guides are too bulky to take on and off all the time. So I thought the follow solution: build a little L- shaped fixture with a magswitch on top that secures the fixture to the top of the fence and a t-track on the side that holds the jessem clear-cut stock guides (the ones for the router table).

Before spending well over $100 to try this out, I wanted to check with those who have experience with the clear cut stock guides and/or magswitch. Could this work or is it bound to fail? Has one magswitch enough holding power for one guide or do I need 2 per guide?

Thanks!

Hi. Check out kennyearings on youtube. He has his setup with magswitches. His video includes the sizes/info he used on his sawstop. He is a very good and detailed speaker and his presentation is very real world!  Should work for yours as well.

If I understand your idea correctly, it's not gonna work, because it doesn't allow you to position the router table stock guide rollers in and out from the saw fence. The rollers are fixed in their distance from the fence, and can't handle wider stock. You can come up with a design that allows the rollers to be moved in and out, by adding another base (which is mounted on the saw fence with magswitches) for the L-fence to ride on.

One solution is to mount the Tablesaw Clear-Cut stock guide on a plywood base and lock the plywood base with two magswitches on the saw fence. The whole set-up isn't that heavy, and several members on this forum have used that method. Not a cheap solution, but as functional as screwing the guide on the sawfence.

Not sure if this is what you’re suggesting but I have attached my stock guides using two mag switches on a 3/4 ply base:

I did a similar mount as [member=72399]CeeJay[/member] on my SawStop PCS with the 150lb mag switches.  Works well for me, I have some other jigs I use on the fence so it's good to be able to remove the stock guides as needed.

Note how both Bob & CeeJay mounted the Magswitches in the vertical position. That allows for full magnetic force to be utilized.

I found the Magswitch did not work well on the Laguna fence for the Clear Cuts.

I did use Magswitch 150’s for the baby power feed.

Dave Stanton has a YT video showing how he did this on his TS.

If you have a Shaper Origin I created a Magswitch 150 file in my Shaper hub. I tried the one on the public hub, they did not fit. The radius is wrong. If someone wants the file I can load it to the public hub.

Yeah I pinched Dave Stantons approach. I used a 40mm Forstner bit.

Ditton on using MagSwitch approach.  I learned about it from Dave Stanton's video.  Works great, and I do need to take it off at times.

Thanks everyone! Very useful.

Interestingly, Dave Stantons initially uses the the smaller stock guides for the router table on his table saw with magswitch (although his jig looks different than the one I thought about). See 1.23 in the video. Of course, you can't adjust the position of the rollers in and out from the saw fence and I am sure the TS rollers are much more robust.

The router stock guide is shown at 0:40, which Dave said worked great for smaller stock. For smaller stock, another alternative may be to use a featherboard?

I would definitely use it! me@davidcbaker.com

Has anyone conducted a test to see if using the magjig 150 reduces the safety of the clear cut TS  guides in the rare event of a kickback, for example someone putting the outfeed roller on the wrong side of the blade?

Dave Stanton also has another video specifically about making an auxiliary fence for your table saw to accommodate the stock guides normally intended for the router table. Here it is:
