Seeking Adjustable Mobile Base w/4 Swivel Casters

Just a word from prior experience.. Heavy tools on 4 swivel casters can be a challenge to control if your floor is not close to perfectly flat and level. I could be wrong but I think hat is the reason that most mobile bases are equipped with 2 fixed and 2 swivel casters. My Powermatic table saw has an integrated mobile base with 4 swivel casters and at times it seems to be handful to relocate to a specific spot and orientation.

YMMV..

I thought I wanted a couple of tools on a base with 4 swivel casters as well. I have others on the Shop Fox bases with 2 swivel and 2 fixed. Grizzly sells extra swivel casters that fit those bases just fine, but I found out that the way the base is constructed and the way the caster mounts, there is not room enough for the swivel casters to swivel in the spots where the fixed casters are supposed to go. (Hope that made sense!). So now I find it even more of a challenge to move those tools on the bases I added 4 swivel casters to, only because two wont fully swivel.

I guess bottom line, skip the Shop Fox ones if you want 4 swivel casters, or at least be ready to modify them in some way.

Maybe you could modify the Saw Stop ICS base in some manner, or add a platform to the bottom. That thing has 4 swivel casters and a super smooth up/down movement, and easily moves around the heavy saw when raised. It is about $300 though---

If it could fit the Sawstop base is an excellent choice. Otherwise you might check out the casters at Woodcraft and fabricate your own base which could be tailored to your exact requirements. I have built bases for one of my router tables, one for my MFT3 and also I have made a base for my drill press which enhances the stability of the unit. Typically I use 3/4 plywood and 2 by 4 and groove the two by fours to capture the 3/4 plywood sheet. This will make you a very rugged base. And if needed the casters can be mounted so the base is very close to the floor. In addition I have a HAMMER A3-31 that I made a Sawstop inspired equipment lifter as the johnny bar system they designed is a very poorly executed.

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't really want to spend $300 for the saw stop mobile base, I dont know if it is adjustable either. I could get buy with just 2 swivel casters for the bandsaw and drill press, but I really need to have 4 swivel casters on my jointer. Like I said in my first post, I have 4 swivel casters attached to my jointer and bandsaw now but they raise the machines up too high. I may just have a few bases fabricated and add my casters to them.
