Hi,
Just thought I'd clarify a couple of things that have been said on this.
The 16-gauge tool will be available next summer (2011) in both straight & angled magazines. The next tool to come will be the 18 gauge, with a straight magazine, which should be here in Spring.
I do think the price will settle at about £425 + VAT, as every technology that comes out starts a bit higher & then falls; the first Paslode tool was over £1,000 when it first came out!
This does put it higher than the Paslode, closer to the Dewalt on price.
It is 30% lighter than the Dewalt, & is Li-Ion, but I don't think that's the major benefits. The reduction of moving parts should make it easier to repair, & less likely to break in the first place. The lack of cleaning over the gas tools should save quite a bit over the life of the tool. And the saving on fasteners over the gas tools will be very sizable, as the gas isn't free! This last one isn't so apparent with the 15-gauge, but wait until you see the money you can save on fasteners on the 18 & 16-gauge. The tool won't look as 'expensive' then.
We started out as a pneumatic nailer & stapler company, & in many ways Fusion is just taking the same principle we used when we started in 1947 & taking it onto the next level, a truly cordless pneumatic tool.
However, each to their own. We would never knock the Paslode or Dewalt tools, as they both do what they say on the tin. We think Fusion has some benefits over them, but equally we recognise it won't be for everyone. All I'd say is try it, & see what you think.
