What are we supposed to do when the FOG is not up?

I don't know about anyone else, but I did some carpentry. Siding replacement. 63* and sunny. Spring is in the air. Good to step away from the computers sometimes!

Well the good news is that I was asleep most of this time!  [big grin]

I smell a conspiracy...Festool shutting down FOG to stimulate tool usage!  [scared]

I suspect tool talk sells far more tools than use. [tongue]

I have also been experiencing that.  I thought that it was just an issue with my laptop waking up.  Only about this time of the morning.

Peter

it has been happening to me.  The message tells me the server will not process my call as it is too busy.  For me, this has been happening at around 3am for the past three days.  i cannot get onto the FOG until late afternoon, or as today, until just now at around 8pm.  It is terrible when i can't get my fix first thing in the morning and have to suffer all day long.  ??? [scared] [eek]

The Tool Gods are telling you to sleep, Tinker.

A number of country specific Festool websites went down over the weekend as well as FOG. I suspect too many individual websites/databases are being run off the same server.

This time it was clearly an SMF issue with SQL, NOT the server.  Should have been a five minute fix, but it was down all day.

I run a Forum on the same platform (Simple Machines Forum) as FOG, and doing a maintenance run on the SQL database every few days is an absolute. It keeps things running smoothly, otherwise you can start having problems like FOG has had over the last week.

FOG was down all sunday for me. I guess new management is not monitoring this site as often as we are used to from Shane.

Only Festool USA and Canada websites are run from the same server as the FOG. Most other Festool websites are run from a central server in Germany.

Yes I've been having problems with the site as well. I don't think this is normal. Company run sites will need to do better as it's a possible image problem if Festool can't maintain a site properly without downtime, how does that reflect on other aspects of their products/service..

But Scott,  when the sun goes down, that's when I go to sleep. [blink]

Seems with all the database problems that were happening my avatar disapeared. Not that it matters but wanted to report it in case it's somehow indicative of other problems.

I could not access FOG for most of the day on Sunday.  The other forums that I frequent worked fine.

It seems like FOG has more server problems than all the others put together and then some.

That's pretty ironic for a company that wants to be know for reliability and quality!  ;)

In defense of Festool, it is NOT their server that is causing the problems. It has everything to do with software...specifically the SQL database that SMF (The forum software) and most other forums use to store all user data, settings, and threads.

SQL has been the bane of every forum operator at times. I run another forum based on the same system, and I religiously do a maintenance run on the SQL database at least weekly. (Takes less than two minutes). There is also a database repair function that will usually solve any issues. I have had virtually zero problems as long as I do the maintenance runs. SMF has a few buggy features that can corrupt the database, but is easily repaired with automatic maintenance. That being said, SMF (Simple Machines Forum) is an exceptionally robust forum system with many mods available. Perfect for the purpose here, and much cleaner than some much more expensive options.

The thing that is missing here is that Brent or the Server Administrator is not getting instant messages when the forum goes down.

I would strongly suggest that a "problem" email account be set up so that members can alert Festool staff immediately when the forum goes down for anything except routine maintenance...and publish that address for the members to use for that purpose.

Cheers,
Frank [smile]

I again apologize for the outage of the FOG on Sunday.  We are currently looking into the issue and hope to have a solution in the coming days.  If you have immediate concerns or problems when the FOG is down contact the service department at 800-554-8741 or the application line at 888-337-8600 during our normal  business hours.
Thank you for your patience!

Brent

My avatar is also gone, and from some other people too. And then some are not.
