Setting up my work truck for Festool

The sprinter is a huge van.  I have the short wheel base Renault Traffic but my new one is the long wheel base for the extra length for sheets & staircases ect.  Volvo estate for family life.  Works good for me  [big grin]

I want the capacity, towing and the real kicker; that is about the only thing offered like that here in the states.

Oh sure Ford just introduced that little van thingy but, I like to be able to keep things dry and be able to fit longer items inside with me.

A truck is completely a waist of time in my opinion. Like people have already said  the fuel cost is much higher  also road tax in the UK for 4x4 and trucks is really high (My mums 4x4 road tax is more than 400pounds a year my van is 200 pounds a year). You dont have much space but also they don't have sliding side doors so its awkward to get to your tools right at the front which is wasting time and money. So really it just costs you a lot of money to own a truck(pickup,4x4).

thing is jmb tax on a pickup is same as a van as it is a LGV you are right on the 4x4 tax tho

Even so still a pickup or Americans call it truck is useless but some of the trucks or Pickups they are on about is like a 4x4 though aint it so is that still considered as a LGV(light good vehicle)  eg. the Warrior with the Cab on the back is like a truck thing or Nissan Nivara with the cab on the back

You make some good points about a truck. Most of the construction firms here are predominantly vans but most of them have at least 1 truck.  Why ?  Because when you hook up a trailer to a van you are very limited to the weight you can put on that trailer.  A truck can legally tow a much heavier load & with much more ease.

I only do Joiner work so no need for hauling messy stuff so a van is ideal for me.  It really is each to there own as both has pros & cons but i do think it is a cultural thing.  But the majority in the UK is mainly vans.

yep still lgv as would the 4x4 vw transporter.

i would put mulch etc in my van and just sweep it out afterwards. as for payload, why would i want to put that much stuff in my van by hand when i can have it delivered

Because sometimes `van day` and `delivery day` are not the same day (or sometimes even week)

I'll give the van the advantage on protecting cargo from the elements and ease of loading/unloading (reduced height), but that's about it.

I think that's a massive advantage to amount of time you save and you can get more stuff in with more ease and out. I always want my tools safe so for the trade the Van to me makes most sense.

Pictures will show you more to what I mean with ease for getting tools in and out quick to do a job quick.

Ill load some in a min

just got the call i`ve been waiting for, 2010 Chev express 2500 will be here in a couple days, that set of pics gives me a few ideas, will post pics when i`m done setting it up. Been stuck on getting the systainers in place, just figured that the vac would go in the middle area, but that picture shows its better to be tucked in somewhere.

The Good thing about that area where the Vac goes you can put more systainers in there because its two systainers wide also the Kapex on its own with no stand attached  set at 60 angle fits in their nice a snug aswell so it doesnt just become a Vac space its a multi space lol. Oh That kapex stand with the wheels first will also go into that space but as you can see its longer so does stick out but it does stop it from sliding when you break or accelerate hard and a simple clip would stop it coming out.

I Am thinkin of blocking the first two from the front of the van where the Kapex is now on the photo and have it a flat panel for the kapex to be fixed to standing up saving floor space and then open them two up from the other side where I store the extendible steps and Metabo and Fein Screw gun. So I can access them two rows at any time with out anything being in the way so ill have the tools I use the most in them two rows.

What do you think?!??! Better Idea aint it make use of the second sliding door really.

Nice racking JMB!!! [thumbs up]

Thank you!  I was going to spray the routerd face of 2x1 green  [embarassed] but decided I was going over board lol.

Yea jmb, nice job.  The stuff in the side door looks like a bit of an afterthought though  ;)

Why is your systainers sideways ?  Is it for extra depth for the extractor ?

I like it though & will incorporate some of those ideas in my new van.  What type of van is it by the way.

Cheers, Woodguy.

Yea looks a bit of a after thought I was going to have my MFT table in their but im 5mm to tight then was going to have levels and stuff on hooks but never got round to it so at the moment I just but non festool boxes in their further down the side their is a Arbotech also down their lol which you can not see!  [crying] If you read above what I just said you can see I want to alter and make use of that after thought side door.

I made them side ways because 2 reasons!!

1. I was able to get more rows in the length of my van which is more space saving  you know what I mean.

2. If you lift up a festool box with a handle side ways you can tilt the box with the handle to get one end higher to slide them into place  if you turn the box the hand will the pivot thus you need to use your other hand to tilts the box. Did I make any sense there?!?! I am not the best for explaining by writing.

The Van is a FIAT SCUDO New Shape ( That picture isnt actually mine just googled it)
