I'm guessing from the pics that your's is the LWB Scudo, is that correct?

Oh I thought that photo was the short wheel base. No mine is the short wheel base. I think!?! Yeah it is the SWB sorry. Why you thinkin of buying one? or just trying to get a idea of what size van you need or want or have?

I will redo my racking making more use of my other side door. No one noticed my MINI racking! For my MINI systainers! They are so cute lol!!!

I will measure it for you tomoro! but going from my spirit level its 6ft (1.8m) which is from the bent bit of the bulkhead so the smallest point and 7ft (2.1m) from the largest but ill measure it like I said. You know what I mean cus the bulkhead bends out.

I have loads of tools in them boxes and my van on that photo hasnt even got all the festool boxes in and tools.

The fuel isnt bad at all really

Its heavy I love it when I take all my tools out the van feels super fast lol Its really heavy when I have the Still saw in and 100litre Compressor and bench and some other things.

I have a truck.... and would like a sprinter or diesel van, but sometimes you just need the pickup bed.  Plus I have a 7x14' trailer that I seem to haul around everywhere, so I need the towing capabilities also.  I most likely will get a new ? in the future and will look thoroughly for a truck or a  van/sprinter..  My family car is  a Audi Allroad so I am all set there.  ;D

Why is it that you put your racking at the passengers side?
Isn't it so that when you park your van at the side of the road, in between cars, the van fits just (hey thats what those big black plastic things fore and aft are there for), you're only access to the back is on the road and not on the sidewalk?
We, mainland Europe, we drive at the correct side and put our racks in the same place as your's, only in our vans thats the drivers side. With the sliding side door on the passengers side, most vans come with just one sliding door, a sliding door on the drivers side is an option.

My racking is on the passanger side but I access it from the drivers side this is because!

I always try and park so that I step out onto the pavement because I can quickly jump out turn and open my side Door and get my tools out quickly!

Also if I park some where where its really tight I have to make sure I can always get out of corse if that makes sense so even if my passenger door is right up to a wall or another car I can get out still but also I can of corse get to my side door which is on the drivers sides  also. 

If you have access from the passenger side you have to walk around the van to get to your tools why walk further?!?!?

Also having it on the passenger side of your on a busy road its dangerous so okay you make sure you park with your passenger door on the pavement side you still have to step out onto the road again to get out of the van.

So to me it makes no sense to have access to your tools on the opposite side. Its actually stupid really.  Has that answered your question?!?!?

here in australia it is illegal for me to park the drivers side of a vehicle by the kerb.
you can only park the same way that traffic is flowing, so the passenger side of the vehicle is always beside the kerb.

i dont expect you to know this as you dont live here. its not that you dont have any sense or that you are stupid.

No I didnt mean every one was stupid I was saying it would be stupid to have it any different in England. Ofcorse in Europe it would be opposite to how I have it because your on the other side. Also I was answering to Mettes who is from this side of the pond not your side.

No I didnt know its against the law to be parked on the other side on the road. Seems very odd to me that your not aloud. So you could be on a road and the job is n the other side you would have to find some were you could turn round safely with out stopping other traffic so you was facing the right way.

Hey JMB,

I didn't know that in England you can park at whichever side of the road.  Down here (Belgium) it's certainly not allowed just as in Australia apparently.  If that is the case it indeeds makes more sense to fit your van the way you do.

I find it quiet interesting to know that you guys can park at the "wrong" side of the road with facing traffic.  What do you do when you drive away on a very busy street?  It's sometimes even a challenge to  squeeze in between two cars in your own lane.  Now you first have to cross a lane with traffic facing you and get in your own driving lane.

Didn't want to aggravate you, just a question from which I now have learned that drivers in the UK not only drive the wrong lane, they can choose to park in the wrong lane.  ;D

I just wrote a long post explaining the rules of parking in the UK relating to which side of the road to park on, and then thought I'd better check before I post it. Glad I did!

Apparently, it is against the highway code (but not necessarily illegal) to park on the wrong side of the road see HERE.

Having said that, it's never (or very rarely) enforced. People here tend to be overjoyed when they find a piece of tarmac that doesn't have parking restrictions, and in the excitement abandon their cars wherever they can!!!

I must admit I was ignorant of the rules myself, they must have changed at some point in the last 20 years or so!

Use off-street parking areas, or bays marked out with white lines on the road as parking places, wherever possible. If you have to stop on the roadside

?do not park facing against the traffic flow
?stop as close as you can to the side

?do not stop too close to a vehicle displaying a Blue Badge: remember, the occupant may need more room to get in or out
?you MUST switch off the engine, headlights and fog lights
?you MUST apply the handbrake before leaving the vehicle
?you MUST ensure you do not hit anyone when you open your door. Check for cyclists or other traffic
?it is safer for your passengers (especially children) to get out of the vehicle on the side next to the kerb
?put all valuables out of sight and make sure your vehicle is secure
?lock your vehicle

The bold type (MUST) I believe are the enforcable items, the rest are strongly advised. Of course, these are liable to change as & when the GOV.UK decides it's a money earner [wink]

went to an ahl hockey game here in saint john n.b about 15 years ago, ducked down a side road and found a spot, on the other side, i stuck it in  there without a worry. came out after the game and saw a ticket on the window, no problem, parking tickets at the time were about $7, to my suprise it was $87.50 [eek], its considered a moving violation which bumps up the cost

without getting into `handing` of the matter, the same rules apply here in the states. However,..... you can _generally_ get away with parking `wrong-sided` if it appears to someone who might care (police), that it is for good reason. This also assumes that you are not creating additional hazards. Attitude can be a major player in situations like this
