Setting up my work truck for Festool

Hey JMB,

I didn't know that in England you can park at whichever side of the road.  Down here (Belgium) it's certainly not allowed just as in Australia apparently.  If that is the case it indeeds makes more sense to fit your van the way you do.

I find it quiet interesting to know that you guys can park at the "wrong" side of the road with facing traffic.  What do you do when you drive away on a very busy street?  It's sometimes even a challenge to  squeeze in between two cars in your own lane.  Now you first have to cross a lane with traffic facing you and get in your own driving lane.

Didn't want to aggravate you, just a question from which I now have learned that drivers in the UK not only drive the wrong lane, they can choose to park in the wrong lane.   ;D

No you didn't aggravate me sorry if I was being a bit rude!

Well it is more difficult to pull out when your parked the wrong way round but if you end up waiting waiting  then well I do and many other drivers do as well and just pull out when its safe on the side your on and if more cars come well they will just have to wait untill I can pull out onto the other side.  So basically I will be blocking the road on one side while I wait till the other side clears or some one flashes to let me out. Its the norm so people dont start shouting at your if they have to wait for you well if some one does it to me I just wait.

Use off-street parking areas, or bays marked out with white lines on the road as parking places, wherever possible. If you have to stop on the roadside

?do not park facing against the traffic flow
?stop as close as you can to the side

?do not stop too close to a vehicle displaying a Blue Badge: remember, the occupant may need more room to get in or out
?you MUST switch off the engine, headlights and fog lights
?you MUST apply the handbrake before leaving the vehicle
?you MUST ensure you do not hit anyone when you open your door. Check for cyclists or other traffic
?it is safer for your passengers (especially children) to get out of the vehicle on the side next to the kerb
?put all valuables out of sight and make sure your vehicle is secure
?lock your vehicle

The bold type (MUST) I believe are the enforcable items, the rest are strongly advised. Of course, these are liable to change as & when the GOV.UK decides it's a money earner [wink]

Rob.

True OR the EU steps in again with their stupid rules. Like trying to make us pay for the weight  instead of by the Dozen for things like Eggs. Wish we got rid of the EU it is destroying England.   ANY way  I park at my new house every day the wrong way got lot of work to do lol my little project. Any way a police car drives past almost everyday.  So its defiantly not a MUST law the car behind my can has been the wrong way for about 3 weeks now its never moved. No ticket on his bonnet. I dont think we should make it the law it seems a pointless law to bring out.

Oh just a thought how come cars in the UK can have their parking light ON on either side of the car?!?!? So I can leave the lights on the left side when im parked on the right side(wrong side)

JMB...
Eggs have always been sold by weight, just under a different system. Each class of egg_small/medium/large always referred back to how many grams/ounces they weighed individually, the weight range for each class was/is within a specified range. I used to keep chickens [wink]

Parking lights!!! never had a van with them ;D

Quote from my other post "it is safer for your passengers (especially children) to get out of the vehicle on the side next to the kerb"
It is a point of advice, not law, and I did not write that it was!.

Though I do fully understand the reasons behind why it is a law in many countries, and when I travel to those places I comply, makes my holiday so much nicer. ;D Rob.

'Cos they have to do something to justify their obscenely high and pointless pay packages! Fail as an MP or union boss, get a job trying to fail everyone else as an MEP. ( thinking Kinnock and Scargill here off the top of my head)  [wink]

here's my tool box ?. Citroen relay H2L2 (mwb) always had ford transits, but these seem much bigger where you need it !
even room for a dog ?

Yea jmb, nice job.  The stuff in the side door looks like a bit of an afterthought though  ;)

Why is your systainers sideways ?  Is it for extra depth for the extractor ?

I like it though & will incorporate some of those ideas in my new van.  What type of van is it by the way.

Cheers, Woodguy.

Well WoodGUY!

I had some time to do some Modifications in my Van!  And now that space which is abit of a after thought is no more! lol

I went a bit further and cut out my bulk head and had some metal cut.  Now I can have full 8foot size sheet material on edge.

Woodguy,

They're called fanlight catches. Any decent hardware shop should have them. Screwfix do one too though they appear to be out of stock at the moment.

I got them from my Local dealer  the ones JRB linked are slightly different. The latch bit is  just a flat plate which screws on the edge on the screw fix web site mine are face mounted if you look closely in the picture you can see. I got loads spare!  I was going to have one at the top and one on the bottom but its a pain for opening because they are spring loaded so you have to use both hands to open them you only need one any way.  They are very good for van use because the spring is strong and they will never open with vibration!also! You just close them like you do a door latch.

Back in March I totaled my 08 Ford E250 on an icy bridge just outside of Casper, WY. Van downshifted as I hit the bridge, slid sideways and went head on into the guardrail at about 45 - 50 mph. As I bounced off the guardrail the van went airborne and landed on the driver's side, slid for about 100' on it's side where I came to rest just 15' behind another accident that had happened not 10 minutes before mine. Luckily I had a steel bulkhead ($300) installed not long after purchasing the van. Saved my life.
They used the jaws of life to cut the roof back to get me out. Always wondered how airbags would feel, now I know.

Holy cow. You're a lucky (and wise...$300 doesn't seem much for a life) guy.  Like Junky said... [jawdrop]
