Setting up the ATF 55 with the Basis Plus

Hi Guys,

Hope someone can help me out.

I've recently bought a Basis Plus table with a saw insert and a router insert.

I have the CMS Table with the TS 55 insert, and TS 55 REQ saw and a sliding table which all work superbly. I bought this older Basis Plus set and I read on here the router is compatible with the newer CMS table.

I just found an ATF 55 saw on FB, so I thought I'd give it a whirl on the table and see which one I preferred and get rid of the one I can do without. I'm struggling to set up the saw in the Basis Plus table.

When I first installed the saw, I couldn't get it to 90 degrees from the plate, there was about a 1-2mm from square which was driving me mad. Also, it looked like the saw was seated slightly left to the front. I've had a play around with what I think are the adjustment nuts at the bottom, and it is better but not perfect. I did test the blade just on the saw, and it was at 90 degrees to the plate.

I'm also struggling to work out how to attach the riving knife to the saw. I'm not sure if I'm missing a nut or something, which is the way I add it on the TS55 saw.

I know the system is rather old, but first impressions are I like it more than the CMS. It seems more compact, works well and is easier to raise and lower the blade.

Does anyone have an experience they could possibly share, or direct me a URL where I can read up please? So far my Google searching has not really had any hits.

Many thanks in advance,

Charlie

Thanks Mark,

That's really useful. I'll have a read and see if I can "tweak" to make perfect.

Pretty sure the CMS was not designed with the ATF in mind.
Erm. For posterity:

- the Basis inserts are compatible with CMS. Sole exception being the pull-saw one for ATF 55
- I believe there was a cheaper non-pull-saw insert for ATF 55 that should work as well

So........................what's wrong with the unit ?  [scared]

You didn't use or keep it very long before you put it up for sale .

Hay Xedos,

Nothing wrong with it, it's a great bit of kit.

I sold it to a chap who will use it a lot more than I do. I've replaced it with a CMS 75 which is working really well for me.
