I found a new (to me) rendering program today, called ShaderLight. I found it via a video on YouTube:
Sh]aderLight
I downloaded it to try it out. You get full useability for 14 days, then its $199 (which seems a lot, but then I use a lot of free software!). I've tried a few rendering programs that work with SketchUp, but I really struggle to get my head round the lighting aspect, and as a consequence the renderings always look either too washed out, or underexposed (or a combination of both!).
This program has some pre-set lighting settings, and with these, and only about 10 minutes of playing, I managed to get quite decent results! The rendering itself took about 80 minutes on my crappy old laptop, but I'm quite pleased with it. This is a model I'm working on for a sysport/MFT3 base:

It's not a finished design yet, but I wanted to check the render program. The FOGtainers and the latches are both too bright so I've now altered the colours in SketchUp to compensate, but I haven't re-done the render yet (I need the computer!).
If you're thinking of trying some photo-rendering, then this may be worth looking at. I don't think I'll be buying a licence after my 14 days, but already I've had better results than I've had with any of the completely free/non-time limited programs.
