Shaper Origin G2 - Took the plunge

Not an exaggeration to say it totally changed how I will use the tool. You'll find it's worth the wait.

From everything I read and watch, I agree.  The 2 month wait just threw me a bit.. [mad]

I agree with Richard. Studio has streamlined the process. It may not be as "complete" or versatile as something like Fusion360, it is far simpler. I have yet to go as far as using with my phone, but I have done several projects from a laptop.

Yep I've got the old guy aversion to designing stuff with my thumbs. Phones are for photos, maps and music.... sometimes even talking to people.  [smile]

My Shaper plate for the day….

Cutting mortises to install Sugatsune HES3D-70DN hinges for a pair of pocket bi-fold doors. Designed the mortises in Fusion 360, I may add the Z when I upgrade the software on the Shaper. For now I write the depth on the MDF.

I have not ordered the Plate yet.

FWIW...Shaper seems to be ahead of schedule for delivery of the new Shaper Plate.

Shaper originally gave me a delivery window of December 9-23, today they revised that delivery to tomorrow.  [cool]

Nice.

I got an update from Shaper as well. Shaper's email is saying delivery tomorrow (Friday).

When I looked up the tracking info at UPS, it said Saturday delivery.

I'm looking forward to seeing some reviews when people get their machines.  The addition of the depth setting in the files is the game changer I was looking for!

There are some reviews on the Shaper forum, so far consensus is the major upgrades are the change in the bit height sensor & that the camera sees farther & recognizes tape better. An evolutionary update, but overall G2's capabilities are basically the same as G1.

Looks like the next firmware has already started trickling out also. I haven't turned mine on this week, may be waiting for me.

For designs I'm using Studio now & F360 for several years, and depth encoding is available in both, so it'll be interesting to get into the shop and give it a whirl.

I am working on larger pegged M&T joints with the SO right now.  That $200 price tag for automatic z-adjustment sounds cheap this week.  My 8mm collet and a big Amana roughing bit showed up last night, so I'll see if that can improve the workflow for the next few days until depth encoding goes live (and I can hopefully give Shaper my money for autopass).

From the few third-party videos on YT of the G2, I haven't felt anything close to the level of envy required to place an order.  The machine really has held up well over the last couple years.

I have been using Studio more, but still in conjunction with Inkscape, and only on the desktop, not mobile or tablet.  It's a little clunky, but it's working.  I cannot believe custom anchors are not available in Studio.  That seems like a massive oversight.
