Does anyone have any experience with shelf railing? Not the installation, but using a shelf with railing on a daily basis.

I like the look and it certainly will stop items from migrating off the shelf, but does it represent a “tripping hazard” when removing items from the shelf?  That is, did you find that the bottom of an item would catch on the railing and cause it to fall on the floor.

This is the type I am talking about:

Unless you live in an earthquake zone, or are using these in a travel trailer, I don't see the purpose!

My mother had those on some cabinet shelves, and I found them a challenge for anything but the smallest items to get in and out...

Most of the time, I see this on shelves that are mounted very high (essentially unreachable) as display, not for regular use.
To use that type of thing as a daily, it would have to be just the opposite. It would have to be in easy reach and have plenty of clearance for the items on it.

More annoying than helpful is my 2 cents.  [big grin] [big grin]  Although, this WOULD possibly,[ note the possibly]..... stop my wife from over-stuffing a Kitchen Cabinet. Both she and our oldest Niece are terrible about doing this.  You open a door and are lucky that all the 'carefully' stacked things perched in there didn't come tumbling out from just opening the door to grab something.  [scratch chin] [scratch chin] [scratch chin] [thumbs up] [thumbs up] [thumbs up]
They affectionately call it Jenga'ing things.  I call it stupid and dangerous, but am out voted most everytime.... [mad] [mad]

Sounds like you need more cabinets? or maybe a pantry type cabinet.  Maybe convert some shelves in the base cabinets to pull-outs. It makes them far more useful.

I would be mostly worried about the top shelves.  You reach for a tall vase and it trips over the rail.  That would mostly happen if the shelf was so tall that it was a reach to get at.

I liked the look, but I’m not going to use it.  I had images of an old Christmas present back in the early 1960s or late 1950s.  It has football players that advanced by the entire field being attached to a buzzer.  The vibrations made the pieces move.
