The Shinex is coming and will sell for $400. It comes with a side handle and StickFix (hook & loop) polishing pad.

Why only 150mm pad listed? What about 80mm pad(s)

That's a good question, Frank.

The trigger is a speed control for one.
It's slightly lighter for another.
It's 1200W as opposed to 720W for the Rotex 150. It seems like a lot of power for the weight.
It also has more ways to hold it for continued comfort (supposedly).

Without getting my hands on one, that's the best I can do for now.

Without any of the standard Festool advantages in regards to dust collection, I'm having a hard time trying to see how this is worth a 300% premium over the well respected PorterCable VS 6" polisher.  (speaking of the older USA model, not the replacement Chinese version).

Those can be had all day long for about $125.00

$400 is a lot for a 6" polisher, no matter the handle positions...

And I'm a Festool guy with lot's of expensive tools, so I've already seen the green light.

I don't think you will see an improvement on the rotex for polishing wood, but the shinex is really aimed at the automotive market and plastics.

edit: When you're at the UK site, take a look at the prices and once again consider yourself lucky for the prices you guys pay for these tools. The GBP is doing not so well in the exchange markets, so the UK prices are a little lower than the EU prices, however, still way higher then the US prices. If you look at the EU price, you will see that we pay USD 636 for the shinex, in a carton box, without acc.

I've just been reading some reviews of the Shinex on some car detailing forums, and they were almost all very positive. However, I did read that the Shinex isn't actually made by Festool, but by Flex Tools of Germany.

I Know in the past Festool has worked with other companies on various products, but I thought they were moving away from that. Perhaps not entirely. Or perhaps the info I read was wrong. [eek]

The Shinex was designed by Festool engineers, is made by Festool, and is exclusively sold by Festool. Flex has nothing to do with the Shinex, although they
have a polisher that looks similar to the Shinex. The Shinex was introduced to the market before the similar looking Flex polisher.

Here's one of the Flex buffers I had with my auto business from the early '90's.  At the time Flex was still totally under German ownership.  Eventually Pentair Group (former owners of Porter Cable and Delta) bought them.  Don't know who owns them now, but I know this unit is no longer made.  It's a great tool for sanding/compounding/buffing/polishing.

I have corrected the accessory info in my original posting. There are no 80mm pads, etc.. The document, from which I was getting data, was in err, (it had typo's). All of the pads, sponges, etc. are 150mm.

I'm still not sure how it will be packaged. I'm working on that...
