I just moved into a new house and got all my tools down into the unfinished portion of the basement. Currently there is only the three lights and and no power outlets! I will be building it all out over the next month or so should be fun!

Hey  blaszcsj nice space, I can't wait to see the progress! Good luck with the build.

Those walls look cold! Brrrr ...

Looks like a good size space [wink]

If I had virgin space like that, I would consider, cutting into the floor for dust ducts, installing strategic electrical outlets and putting in a wood floor.

If not cutting into the floor, consider wood floor or some sort of comfortable floor surface. Even a painted surface would be easier to clean.

Nice space, this project should be fun, especially the shorty I-beam over by the shaper. Throw a trolley and hoist on it and do some heavy lifting. Seems like you're a car guy so it would be perfect for you. I'll be watching this thread.

Hey man!  Good looking open space there!  Where in the Nati are you?  I am down in Anderson and am building a house later this year into next. Can't wait to have a dedicated space for my shop. Been coping with a small space in my current house.

Keep us posted!

Oh. Your building inspectors allow to lay the wire through the holes in the beams? We are allowed to do it in steel pipes or hoses, and nothing else.

U.S. Residential code is Romex wire in any interior wall cavity.  Permanent Wires must be in conduit if buried or ran on an exterior wall.

Holes: Do not bore holes closer than 2" from joist edges, nor make them larger than 1/3 the depth of the joist.

I'm going to put down a padded wood laminate floor. I am going to have two 220v drops and 2-3 20amp circuits with plenty of wall outlets and a few ceiling outlets in gang boxes.

All my engine build stuff is in the garage. this is for wood stuff only ;) I actually have been playing with the layout and the shaper is going to be the next to the table saw sharing the fence rail. I am going to build build a movable base/table saw cabinet and out feed table for the two of them.

I'm in Alexandria ky. Just across the river. I actually just sold my house in mat Washington...want to help me frame out my shop;) jk. I just got all my can lights up and will be finishing wiring the together this week. Lighting right now really sucks.

I just picked up a powermatic 8" jointer, jet spindle sander, lathe, and belt sander today on Craigslist. They are 10 yrs old and never been plugged in most of the parts were still in their original boxes. The jointer had some minor surface rust which I cleaned up today.

Nice job cleaning up the rust on the jointer.  Looks as good as new.

Got all the lighting wired in this weekend and started work on boxing in all the beams and duct work. I may put in two more lights under the soffet but they need to be low profile as possible.

With the coming 4th of july I have four days off so I am going to try and get the framing completed. Maybe a power power outlet. I can only dream.

Much brighter than the first pictures you took!  You're lucky to have such high ceilings, which create all sorts of additional possibilities.

Looking at your dust collector in the back round.  I have a similar one, a Cincinnati Fan ($75.- surplus store) that works great for my planer.  I just received an Oneida retrofit filter to use with it, now I'm waiting for some flex hose as the filter is about a foot higher than my collector which is also on wheels like yours.  Great shop.

I need some help on layout of the shop for electrical outlets and placement of big tools. I have attached the current layout of the shop. I still need to make provisions for my jointer, spindle sander, belt sander, and lathe. I am not opposed to removing one of the work benches, or rack units. I want to build a permanent miter saw bench with storage underneath as well.

Please give suggestions on placement stuff or sizes of the miter saw bench.

I think I might move the storage racks where you have the miter saw. Then put the two workbenches where you have the racks now with a miter saw station in between. Make all three of those units the same height and you have a lot more available room should you need to cut longer stuff.

Got the tool racks and most of my power tools moved out of the way and framed up about 35ft of wall today. Making progress. Should have the rest of the shop framed out tomorrow.

Bit of timber on the walls and it's looking warmer already [wink] [big grin]

Making progress! Framing is done! Going to start electric tomorrow!
