Shop build

I finished the rough carpentry, rough in electrical, and insulation completed last week. Just need a little spray foam and tape here and there and its ready for drywall. Oh Joy! I managed to get 36 sheets of drywall down stairs yesterday, so that was fun. The shop is coming along!

Between work trips and removing fallen trees from my yard I managed to get all the drywall up and get the soffit lights in. Just need to finish terminating the outlets, tape, mud, and paint.

The shop looks good, you've made a lot of progress in just a couple of months.

Just curious, how many SF is the shop?

Thanks, it is about 700 sqft

Workshop is looking good.

I notice you have the Bosch glide Mitre saw, how are you liking it?

It maybe my next purchase, just holding out to see If a new Kapex might arrive first.

But would be interested to what you think of the Bosch.

Your shop is really coming out nice. How did you manage getting those heavy machines down into?

It looks as if you will have plenty of lighting and outlets.

I am very happy with the Bosch. I've had it for a few years now. It is accurate powerful and very smooth. Only thing I am looking to change is the blade. Stock one is ok but not impressive. Been looking for suggestions on that front.

I have a large platform dolly lift. It has rollers to go down steps. Either way. Still was not fun ;)

It's kind of a revelation to compare the first photos with what you have now.  Clean and brightly lit -- looks like it will be a great space to do your work.  Congratulations on the progress.

Forget the machinery ... lay the carpet - I'm moving it!! [big grin] [cool]

I undertook a similar project this summer. I don't envy your task of hauling materials and equipment downstairs, but it is a very civilized space. What are you going to do about dust mgmt.? I'd like to get better about that along with better ventilation. So far, my solution is open doors and window. Even in the summertime, it's suboptimal. One of the reasons for paying the Festool premium is their dust mgmt., but that still leaves my tablesaw as a huge source of sawdust.

Yes, moving plywood will be a bear, but i can always break it down with the track saw upstairs if needed. The table saw will be have pretty much have the 3hp vac dedicated to it and the chop saw will get the shop vac. I am going to get a ct36 for the shop and use it for primary dust extraction at the tool. I found out today that my Bosch glide miter saw's dust collector with vac left a little to be desired. It will need some modifications.

Major progress this weekend! Got all the tools back into the shop. I just need to finish a few outlet terminations.

I went back to the beginning of your thread and looked at your before pictures.

[thumbs up]  What a difference!  Thanks for chronicling your build.  A wonderful space to work in and it's really an inspiration!

A few questions.  What flooring system did you use?  How high are your ceilings?  Looks like eight feet for the main ceiling, but I wasn't sure.

Thanks, Mike A.

Thanks! the ceilings are 8ft. the flooring is from lumber liquidators quick-loc engineered flooring. It was $1.59sqft on sale. Not terribly priced/ So in the grand scheme of things it was a little more expensive than vinyl, but it looks really good. It also has the added bonus of being a thermal brake on the concrete and the semi-gloss finish makes the room even brighter. Being in a bright/warm environment was my end goal because I have been working in a small cramped dimly lit garage until we moved into this house. Only down side here is that I am in a basement, but that is manageable.

side note: I found the lumber liquidators flooring to have a much thicker veneer than Home Depot or lowes, at least in the similar construction type of flooring. And it was less expensive. so win-win.
