Shop vac to Festool hose...

Brice,

That's how I have mine connected now.  I was just thinking of replacing the non antistatic reducing sleeve (funnel shaped adapter) with a very short 36mm hose.

Ok, here's the Dave R post:

I did the same thing. Here's mine
.
The price is $50.00, including shipping. Until I have it set up in my warehouse, with a new skew number, if ordering on-line, just add it to the Comments Section, send me an email or give me a call.

Bob - I received your adapter and I already used it.  It works perfect with the 36mm hose.  I no longer have to put two (27mm & 36mm) hoses on my boom arm.

Glad you find it useful!

Got mine from Bob, too. Love it.  For my shopvac- 36mm setup, it allows me to use the sanders and Domino out there, too.

I have a CT22 and a 4 gallon rigid shop vac and my anti static hose hooks right up to the rigid.  I'm kinda lost here with what you were trying to do?

Sorry for the late response, I missed this post in the past few weeks.

What I was trying to do was this:
- Ridgid shop vac, hooked up to a ClearVue CV06 small cyclone, which sits on a 20gal trash can
- The shop vac has an extension hose with 2.5" connector, but it's not quite long enough to service my bandsaw, miter saw, and MFTs
- This is my garage, or "2nd workshop".  I keep my CT and Festools locked up in the basement, and didn't want to move the CT back and forth...

- I wanted the 36mm hose to use with the TS55 and OF1400, but it also fits snugly into my bandsaw port and my miter saw's dust port.  (Happy coincidences!)
- But I also wanted the option of using this shop vac setup with the sanders, Domino, etc.  Ergo, the 36mm to 27mm adapter.

I have since also added a tool-actuated switch so my shop vac turns on/off with the tool... similar to how things work with the CTs.

Note to anyone considering this approach:  I already owned the shopvac, Clearvue, can, etc.
If not, it would've been basically the same price as purchasing a CT Mini, which would've provided almost the same function and been the correct colors.  However, one of my primary requirements was servicing my bandsaw (2.5" port) and miter saw, and the 20 gallon capacity is nice, too.

Costs:
- 12g Shop vac $30  (yay Black Friday 2007)
- ClearVue CV06:  about $150
- Trash can:  $15
- Shop vac hose, etc:  $12
- Festool 36mm x 8' Kapex hose:  $80
- Festool hose connector adapter:  $15
- 27mm hose adapter:  $50

Wheeeee! (sounds from slippery slope)  [unsure]

Yesterday, I finally took the plunge and ordered a TS 55. (pun intended) Yay!

Today, I joined FOG.  Hi foggers...

I bought the TS 55 to "replace" my old $35 B&D circ. saw, my only real power tool.  I needed something better to pull off a complete bathroom remodel (including cutting out the old subfoor because the screws are dead due to water damage).  Kinda scared that my first use of the TS will be for demolition, but I need the dust collection BAD.  May be overkill for the kind of work I have needed the B&D for in the past, but I hope to change all that.  There are so many things I think I can build now!

But I did not get a CT dust extractor (yet).  I ABSOLUTELY can't affort it now.

So, my question/request for help is this... does anybody have any ideas for how I can, least expensively, attach my TS 55 to my ShopVac All-around vac?  I have looked around the threads and all the previous answers seem to have dealt with the 2 1/2" hose/connector on the "regular" ShopVacs, but the little all-around has a 1 1/4" hose.  The vac connection consists of a "posi-lock" screw on connection.  My need is two-part:

1) I need to extend (or replace) the current hose (< 6') to a more useable length.  I don't know if this can be done with a replacement hose (from any vendor), or if I need to exend the existing hose with a ShopVac extention.

2) I need to find a way to connect whatever solution I come up with in 1) to my TS 55, which as I understand it takes either a 27mm (1" nom.) inside connection or a 36mm (1 7/16") outside connection.

I know, believe me, I do... that I should just get a CT 22 or 33.  Someday I will.  But I can't on this project.

So, anybody with any bright (and inexpensive) ideas out there, I sure would appreciate your insight.

Thanks,
jim

Jim,
[welcome] to the FOG.  We are glad that you decided o join us.

Ultimately you will have a CT.  Until then you could order a longer hose from Festool.    There hoses fit common vacs.  If you have a Woodcraft store near you, they see a Mister Nozzle system that will work.

Peter

Peter, thanks for the tip on the Mr. Nozzle... that is the right price point for me so I'll be down to my local WoodCraft in the AM.

From what I have found so far, Mr. Nozzle will work with standard 2 1/4" OD shop vac connections.  My shop vac has a 1 1/4" OD connection so I suppose I'll have to find an adapter of somesort to connect the new hose to my vac.  Any tips on where to find such an adapter?

Do you know if the Mr. Nozzel tool-end fits the TS 55 port, or will I need an adapter there too?

Finally, I noticed in several previous threads that people would recommend getting a Festool AS hose if there was any chance of a future CT acquisition.  What is the logic here?  Doesn't the CT come with a hose anyway?  Is the idea that an extra AS hose is always a good thing?

Thanks again,
jim

Welcome to the slippery green slope! I myself just got the TS 55 a few months ago for the same reason as you; a complete bathroom remodel. It might feel like overkill now, but you will find many ways that it will make your life easier. Particularly when it comes time to install your replacement subfloor; cutting plywood panels to fit is a real treat with the TS.

The extra AS hose is definitely a good idea. The CT comes with a 27 mm hose, and I'd suggest getting a 36 mm for an extra, whenever that time comes. A cleaning kit is also a great accessory for the CTs. See how slippery this slope is?  [scared]

Well, after some diggin' around, I finally found a solutions (or two!).

1) To connect a Shop-Vac 1 1/4" hose ("All-Around" model and some other smaller vacs) directly to the dust port on the TS 55 you can use a nifty little adapter from Fein (this works for Fein Turbo I and II vacs as well because they also use a 1 1/4" hose).

Fein 921072K13 Step Adaptor (Amazon)
Fein_step_adapter~0.jpg
The tool end of the Shop-Vac hose fits into the second step of the adapter which fits into the dust port on the TS 55.  Just trim off the smaller two steps and it's done.

2) But I need a longer hose than what comes with my shop-vac... I found two options.  The first, suggested by Peter Halle (thanks Peter), is the Mr. Nozzle M-100-DB 2" dia., 12ft. hose kit available at WoodCraft (and Amazon).  The second is a Shop-Vac "commercial" hose available from Lowes (item #17026 ) - Shop-Vac 12' x 1-1/5" Premium Crush Resistant Hose

Both of these hoses connect OVER the TS 55 dust port (i.e. 36 mm), but in my testing it seems that the Shop-Vac hose from Lowes fits more easily because it has a softer connector than the Mr. Nozzle hose.  (Somewhere, I saw posts commenting on that very issue... the Mr. Nozzle connector can be hard to fit to attachments or dust ports.)  However, neither of these connect easily to my shop-vac as it has a non-standard connection at the vac inlet.

I was unable to find a way to connect either of these new hoses directly to my vac, so I solved the issue by creating a new problem.  I decided to make a Thien dust separator for my system [unsure].  The new hose will connect to the separator and my old vac hose will connect the separator to vac.  More on that coming soon!

I have been using my Rigid vacuum with a Festool non AS hose with my OF1400.  I was using a standard 2 1/2" (od) hose coupler to connect the Festool hose to the vacuum hose.  I bought the coupler from ptreeusa.com.  It worked perfect once I put some blue painters tape on the Festool end to shim it tight.

I jet pulled the trigger on the CT 22 for $300 on eBay.  So far I love it.  Anyway, I know this thread is quite old but I figured my suggestion could help people in the future.  My solution is totally quick and very cheap.

My 2.5" Ridgid hose fits right on my CT22, no problem.

I'm surprised that people were/are having trouble fitting the Festool hoses to the shop vacs; I thought they were supposed to work as-is...

Hi Shotgunn, Welcome.  [smile]

You will like that CT22 !

And thanks for the shimming tip.

Seth

Thanx!!!  I'm glad to be here.  Another quick tip...  Before my CT-22 I used a Craftsman Auto tool switch (from Sears for $19.99) to automatically turn tue Rigid Vac on.  It worked like a charm.  Not bad at all for only $20!
