I've noticed a few discussions recently linked to the Kapex and short 36mm hoses.

There seems to be a common problem...  Nobody wants to cut a perfectly good hose they already own, nor does anyone want to buy a hose just to cut it and use half.

We have just placed an order for several hoses and necessary fitting to make short Kapex hoses.

We just want to know, want lengths do you guys want?  I'm thinking most people will want between 5 and 7 feet of hose.  5 is enough if your vac is directly below the Kapex, 7 is a great length if your vac is just to the side.

Comment here on what lengths you want.  Then you can send us a private message or give us a call for pricing and availability.

I've found 2m to be a perfect length (That's just a few inches short of your 7 foot thinking).

By the way,  we also have whip ends to go from 36 to 27mm connections.

Thanks Kev.

Sounds like you already have one.  Can I sell you another  [poke]

I bought a 36mm 3.5m long hose, and cut it exactly in half to create 2 1.75m hoses. I then sold one of them.

That length is fine with both my mini and CT26, either directly under or to the side of the saw. 2m would also work, but 1.75m works just as well but makes better use of the lengths available from Festool, with no wastage.

I bought the 23 foot non anti static and cut some off of it for the kapex. I still have a nice 18 foot hose left.

In a more perfect world those of us in North America could buy coils of Festool hose like the ones sold in other international markets.

My work around is to purchase the 36mmAS x 7m hose. I first cut 1/3 of it off, which leaves a hose long enough to be useful with track saws and for cleaning. When I need another Kapex hose I cut the remainder of the hose in half. The result is a 2.33m long hose which I find ideal when the Kapex is connected to a CT22 set to the side of the stand with the hose connection away from the Kapex operator.

The good thing about Festool hose and connectors is that even if the hose wears, those connectors go on forever.

What he said.

What about taking the 2.5m 50mm AS hose (452888) and using the 50 to 37 non-AS reducer (493047) to connect to the Kapex?

Would this not work, or is it a big no-no to introduce the non-antistatic reducer.  If the latter, is there a 50 to 37 antistatic reducer available?

A major factor allowing the Kapex to work correctly is the flexibility of the hose. The Kapex was designed to work with the 36mm AS hose, although in humid areas probably the 36mm Non-AS hose works as well and is slightly more flexible. I am located in an area where the humidity is typically so low static build-up is a problem.

Bottom line is that neither AS nor Non-AS 50mm hose is flexible enough to allow the Kapex to work as designed.

Kapex dust extraction is best when the vac is close and there are a minimum of bends in the hose.

After listening to all the comments, plus some pm's and emails, it seems like 1.75 meters is the optimal hose length.

We plan on having these available for general sale at $90.

But for a special FOG only introduction, we are offering these at $80 with shipping included through May 31.

All the parts are in shop, and we will be shipping them out starting by the end of week.

Please call us directly at 800-516-8665 and ask for Ken to order.

That's awesome!  I have my hose setup already, but it's great you are offering this.

That's great, Overanalyze...

But just in case you ever need a new hose, you better bookmark this page  [wink]

Just in case any Canadians are wondering about getting one, I spoke to them this AM and they do not ship to Canada.  I was thinking that maybe this would have been an item because it was a modified Festool item that they did not need to adhere to Festool's USA strict retailer restriction on not allowing cross border purchases/shipping, but the gentleman I spoke to just said that they do not sell accross the border anything at Tooltown.  [sad]

WOW!!  You guys are loving these hoses.  We're shipping them out as fast as we can make them.

Since May 31 falls on a weekend, I'm going to extend the sale.  The discount will apply until I check my email Monday Morning June 2.

If any of you are on the fence, how about you come check out the hose in person at our Father's Day BBQ, January 7.  Of course, you can also grab some food, fun, and play with a bunch of other cool tools.

Are these short hoses still available?  Tried to find them on ToolTown's web site with no luck.

Thanks.

I would call them. Their site isn't really set up for e commerce but I'm sure they could set you up over a phone call.
