Show your systainer

Been having fun getting my non festool items into Tanos systainers using kaizen foam.  A nice win when done and the case is well balanced, holding at either handle...

Finally found some time to cut a foam inlay for my Trotec measuring devices. Now I can store them safely in a systainer and just grab that to bring them all with me.

I do have an air quality measuring device from Trotec too, but there's no need to store that one. It just sits on a shelf and is always on, so I can keep an eye on the amount of stress I am putting on my lungs. I do have a habit of wearing a mask when making dust, but when the Trotec isn't green I am out of the shop 'til it is.

From L to R: moisture measuring device with spare nails, sound level meter, pyrometer, air displacement meter.

It always amazes me to see people working with masks, especially the ones filming it for YouTube. Like angle grinder without dust extractor into the wall... then machine off, mask off  [huh]

Been finally able to start with the shadowfoam organization for my sys drawers.
What a difference this makes is unbelievable. I am extremely happy with how these are turning out, even if they are far from perfect, especially my try to emulate the CXS shape did not result in an exact fit. But it works and is heaps better that before, rattling around in the empty drawer…

More to come, when I find time again. :)

Yes. Done with the Shaper Origin.
First I made a template (like the Shaper video for their Systainer insert) into MDF to tightly fit the foam.

Then, I get a general idea of the layout and follow up with finding some way of making a 2D Model.
Either Online pictures you can „retrace“ or scanning or plain measuring and drawing.

Then I cut it. ;)

I hope this was what you were asking. If not, let me know. [emoji41]

I’m a little surprised that looking through the posts, that no one seems to have used Kydex sheets for interior organizers.

For those not familiar with Kydex, it is the resin sheets that they use for interior panels on commercial aircraft.  The material has been co-opted by the gun holster industry to make holsters.

It comes in sheets and is “slump formed”.  That is, you create a form (it can be anything that can withstand about 375 degrees F.  You simply rest the sheet above the form and place it in the oven and it will “slump” into the shape of the form.  You then wear leather gloves and help the sheet to conform to the form.

This video explains it better than I can.

There are lots of videos on line.  I tried it once in a toaster oven.  The material is only about 0.080” thick so I takes up less room than foam.  It is probably best when the shape is to be repeated.  It is ideal for short production runs.  It is rigid and very tough.

I think most objects stored in Systainers around the forum users here don't look too kind to 190 degrees C  [wink]

The latch on the stock case failed so the hammer drill migrates to a systainer. Eventually most of my tools/accessories are systainer bound.

As a side note, I was wondering, is it just my tools or do other FOG members hear their tools let out a comforting "Ahhhhh, that's better" sound when placed in a custom cut foam systainer insert?  [big grin]

I was think about the same, but then the Sys3 L so the 450/460 long drills finally fit straight. But haven't gotten around to it yet.

But then again... if I put all the long drills with the machine and chisels in the same box.. it's gonna be heavy. Things like 30mm drills tend to be heavy, and rarely used anyway.

Also want to fit the Bosch GDE 16 Plus in the same box as the GBH 2-28 it serves. Bosch has an inlay for exactly that... but then there is no more space for smaller drills and chisels..

It's pretty cool that you made them to fit exactly, rather than just rectangles that would fill the space and leave those odd bumps out.

Meh... It means the universal aspect is also gone. Bosch has a way less rectangular form but has special boxes to fill that;

Bosch L-Boxx;
koffersysteem-l-boxx-102-set-12-stuks-1600a016nb.webp

See the gray bins. Their trouble is that they for some odd reason only sell # amount of different sets and separate bins are hard to find.

But as far as I see it, Festool's bigger problem is switching bin dimensions every few years;

Systainer Classic Box;
bins (LxWxH [mm]) 54x54x63 (and multiples)

Systainer T-Loc Box;
bins (LxWxH [mm]) 49x49x71 (and multiples)

Systainer Storagebox and the T-Loc Sortainer;
bins (LxWxH [mm]) 60x60x71 (and multiples)

And now there is the Systainer³ Organizer;
bins (LxWxH [mm]) 50x50x68 (and multiples)

Also compare;
Festool 487552, the classic "Box";
[attachimg=1]
It fits 32 of the small red 54x54 bins, but the rectangle is only 3x7

Festool 497694, the T-Loc "Box"
[attachimg=2]
Note that it now seems to fits 35 of the small(er 49x49) red boxes in a bix 5x7 area. However... it really doesn't, because the custom orange piece (245x49x71) needs to be in the front at all times or the lid won't close.

Now if you look at Allit... they still make new stuff, all kinds of different boxes; unconnectable metal ones, big plastic ones, small ones, both stackable (and connectable) and not... dual layer ones... you name it... and they _ALL_ use the same bin; 54x54x68 (except a small section of thinner boxes, that use 54x54x45).

Compare prices;
The red 54x54x68 boxes from Allit; €3 buys you 10 of them. Can also be bought as single piece.
The light gray 50x50x68 boxes from Festool; €12 buys you 10 of them. Can't be bought separately.
Yes, the Allit boxes feel cheaper. But they actually are... by a lot.

Bonus is; the Allit one won't tip over as easily, as it has a flat bottom as opposed to standing on a rib that makes the Festool tip over it's (smaller!) diagonal.

So why couldn't Festool just use the 54x54x63 bins, or the 49x49x71 or even the 60x60x71? Let me guess; Making the Organizer 5mm thinner or 3mm thicker yet being able to buy boxes for it 2-4x cheaper... that wouldn't please Bott... cause of some arbitrary height b@llsh*t. Something to think about. What if Bott in x years decides to that [whatever]... is Tanos/Festool gonna drop all compatibility again?

Back to Bosch; they have yet another slightly different bin; 52x52x63 (yes for real..), BUTT they went throught different generations of their L-Boxx... yet the bin size stayed the same and even now new products are coming out that still fit the exact same bins. While with Festool... you can forget putting any bin from the one generation Box to the next... and that makes me sad  [sad].

end of rant

Let's hope that it goes the way of the phones; in the end... everything chargeable via USB-C. Just hoping Festool won't be the Apple.... Ok, let's stop there, cause sectarianism isn't for the FoG  [tongue]

Hello and thanks for the welcome...
A year ago I was looking at a lot of beautiful custom Systainers here on the forum and thought I had to make one too.
I'm glad you liked it. Zachar

I built a little unit to hold just 2 of the organizer size Systainers, that sits on the bench next to the tall cabinet on the end. Installer set and Centrotech set have their own spot now.

As it is now, I would have to build another Sysport to get any more. I'm out of space in the back bench area, adding probably means going under the assembly table, like the Woodpeckers rail square.

Thanks,  I used shaper origin to cut the foam and the foam came with systainer. I can't remember what brand foam it is off the top of my head but I'll take a look.
