Anyone try to make plantation-style shutters?
Any experience with the Rockler jig?
What is the best wood to use?

....thinking about making them for my house in sunny/humid/air-conditioned south FL.

Thanks!

Hi Alfa, I'm sure Brice Burrell made some using a Domino to make the mortices, I think it was the older pin type. I have only ever made a couple of pairs when I lived in Crete and made a jig for my Elu router to make the mortices. I used pine as it was to be painted, cedar would be a favourite out your way, I suspect.

I can't imagine teak being unacceptable.

I have a real old teak chaise lounge that lived its life in Texas with very little maintenance and it's in pretty good shape.

A friend of mine had an old '50's Herreshoff sloop from Holland that we sailed a lot in the '80's in Galveston Bay. It had a teak deck and mahogany hull. The deck was still in good shape.

They are going on the inside? Or outside?
